201 WALNUT STREET
at f&i ABILENE, TEXAS
July 29, 1961 Mr. Truett Latimer State Captiol House of Representatives Austin, Texas Dear Truett: The Retailers of this area have no more serious problem than to compete with the people who do not honor the Sabbath Day. Many major retailers have indicated that their business is so damaged because of this unfair competition until they are seriously considering opening on Sunday. As President of the Retail Furniture Association of Texas, frankly this is our Association's number one item of interest for this year. We note with a great deal of interest that there has been a Sunday Blue Law Mill introduced and we urgently request your supp ort in order to arrest the decay with which the observance of Sunday has come to in this country. We think there is no more serious moral problem than this one at this time and while the bill is not all inclusive or not as perfect as many would like we think it is a good start in the right direction. We hope that you will let us hear from you in this matter and we hope that we can count on your for actively leading this legislation through the Senate at this session. Best regards to you. Sincerely yours, .Sam ,alirop jb
