AUSTIN. Tex. — With the
state Democratic convention, out
of the way, Texans interested
in government and politico now
turn their attention to the next
regular session or the Legisla-
ture, coming up in January.
As the lawmakers convene,
their principal problem is like-
ly to be raising new taxes, in
the amount of $10 million to
$15 million per year.
Governor Shivers has advo-
cated spending $5 million more
annually for mental and tuber-
cular hospitals.
He also lias recommended
more spending to continue im-
provements in the state prison
system.
And lie favor a slate water
conservation prog rani.
Money will also be called for
to enlarge the highway patrol
and to continue paying teacher
■alaries at the current rate:

Campaign Strategy Planned
For many': years, the continu-
ous political;-;.work done by the
CIO ha- been recogni/.ed.
Union peie.-e work at politics
the year round, whereas Texas
conservatives have been, in the
past, inclined to relax from the
political wars between elec-

A ugnilicaii! development ;-
thc indication that the conserva-
tives now plan to alter their
strategy and Ir. to insure an-

keeping right on the job from
now right through the 195(i pri-
