STOP, THEN PASS HALTED
SCHOOL Bl'S AT 10 iVI.P.lL
School busses over the state
have now begun the task of
carrying thousands of children
to and from their studies, Soon
to be expected are tire inevitable
tragic reports of deaths and in-
juries occurring when impa-
tient youngsters dash across
busy highways to greet their
waiting parents or to board the
bus Most of such accidents
could be avoided if motorists
would adhere strictly to the
letter of the law pertaining to
the passing of school busses.
Most Tcxans are awatv of the
law which require a driver to
come to a complete stop when
overtaking from the rear a
school bus which has stopped
to receive or discharge ichool
children, After -topping im-

then allowed to proceed past

miles per hour, and with
caution for the safety of
children".
What many parents dt
realize is that the very same
rule applies when MEETING a
stopped school bus. While ev-
eryone is interested in protect-
ing our children, unthinking
violators of this simple safety
rule greatly outnumber those
who comply Failure Id follow
the law in this case can load
to fines up to $200 00 even
when no accident occurs. Fol-
lowing an accident in
some child is injured or
the penalties are naturally
more serious.
Although the above nil
not apply when passing a
stopped school bus in a business
or residential district of a town,
the necessity for extreme cau-
tion even in those locations is
obvious.
