Bernard L. Newberry, first class
petty officer in the U. S. Navy,
is now located on an island in the
Southwest Pacific, where he is
busily engaged at work with the
Seabees, construction battalion.
Mrs. Newberry makes her home
here at 315 North Caddo street,
while his mother, Mrs. John New-
berry, lives in Mineral Wells. He
was educated in the Mineral
Wells schools and was employed
at Consolidated in Fort Worth be-
fore he enlisted in May, 1942.
Petty Officer Newberry received
his training at Norfolk. Va., and
Fort Hueneme, Calif., and writes
that he is seeing quite a bit of
the Pacific.

Sgt. George A. Rose of Rio Vista
left a job at the Itasca Cotton
Mill to enter the U. S. Army in
February of 1941, shortly after war
was declared by this country. He
received his training at Aberdeen,
Md., Shreveport, La., and Okla-
homa City, Okla.
He is the son of J. W. Rose of
Rio Vista, and his wife is Mrs.
Elsie Mae Rose and she makes her
home in Itasca. Sgt. Rose re-
ceived his high school education

March 24, 1941. and was at Fort
Knox, Ky., Camp Polk, La., Camp

Va., before going overseas.
Son of John M. Bryant of Cle-
burne, Route 3, Sgt. Bryant at-
tended the Concord and Godley
schools and was employed by the
Cleburne Ice Company prior to
his enlistment.
His wife and small son, Ervin
Leo, reside on Route 3, Cleburpe,
but were with him until he sailed.

When Houston called for volun-
teers to avenge the sinking of the
USS Houston, Clarence Rayburn,
seaman first class, w7as one of
those to come forward to offer
his services to his country. He en-
listed in June of 1942, at Houston,
where he was employed.
Seaman Rayburn is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Rayburn of
the Midway community, and his
wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Rayburn, re-
sides in Houston. He is a grad-
uate of the Cleourne High School.

Sgt. Hugh R. Williams of 702
North Main street, is. now serving
with an engineering unit some-
where in England.
Prior to his enlistment on Octo-
bev 19 1O4Q 1TTnq rrnroftoH with
a construction company. He re-
ceived his training at Camp Clai-
borne, La.
Mrs. Williams resides
North Main street.
They are
Lt. Perry enlisted in October, 1940, at which time he was sent to
Camp Bowie. Later he was assigned to the Hondo Navigation School,
where he won his commission and wings as a navigator in the U. S.
Air Corps.
Pvt. Perry, whose wife makes her home at 1008 South Anglin street,
was employed by the Acme Screen Company in Dallas when he en-
listed in April, 1943. From Camp Wolters he was sent to Camp Barke-
ley, where he is now stationed with a medical battalion of the U. S.
Army.
Both boys attended Adams School and were graduated from Cle- I
burne High School.

Private, first class, T. J. Nel-
son, son of Mrs. Louise Nelson
of 728 North Wilhite street, has
two marksmanship medals for ex-
pert shooting. He received his
is now in the Solomon Islands.
Nelson attended the Cleburne
schools, and was a carrier for the
limes-Review before he enlisted on
May 12, 1943.

Army Air Corps is iljw stationed
at Kingman, Ariz., after exten-
sive training which included in-
struction at Randolph Field, San
Antonio; Enid Flying School, Enid,
Air Base at Santa Ana,
Fort Stockton, Texas;
N. M., and Hondo,
Okla.;
Calif.;
Deming,
Texas.
While he was stationed at
Hondo, Texas, he was married to
Miss Velma Jones on June 6, 1942.
McClure is living in King-

Hall, pictured amove, undertook a
difficult task under serious condi-
tions during the attack on Pearl
Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941. Hall helped
to raise the sunken vessels, and, in
his position as diver, spent four
hours at the time under 35 feet
of water.
Seaman Hall also has

enlisting on April 21, 1941.

Hall of Godley, he was graduated
from the Godley High School and
was employed as clerk in the
Granbury pest office before en-
listing on March 14, 1938.

Sgt. T. Willard Burntis Mustin,
son of Mrs. and Mrs. U T. Mus-
tin of Godley, Route 1, is serving
with the United States Army in
North Africa, as an instructor and
inspector of motors. His wife,
Mrs. Johnnie Laverne Johnson
Mustin resides on Cleburne, Route
3.
Sgt. Mustin, who was a farmer
before he enlisted in the army on
November 10, 1940, attended school
at Ranger. He received his mili-
tary training in Camp Bowie, and
attended the mechanics school in
St. Louis, Mo., and vjas later
stationed at Camp Blanding, Fla.,
Camp Edwards, Mass., and A. P.
Hill Military Reservation.

Petty Officer Joe E. Marchbante<"
R.M.2/C, is one of the Cleburne |
men who has seen much service.
He wears three campaign bars,
two of which were received
December 7, 1941 and one on Sept.
21, 1942.
One is the American Defense
Campaign Bar for service before
December 7, 1941 with one star for
the Battle of Pearl Harbor; the
second is the American Theater of
War Campaign Bar and the third
is the Asiatic South Pacific Cam-
paign Bar with a gold star for the
Battle of the Solomon Islands.
Marchbanks, son of Mrs. Carrie
Chapman of 13 East Henderson
street, is a graduate of the Cle-
burne High School and attended
the University of Texas for two
years. He was employed at Fort
Leonard Wood, Mo., before he en-
tered service on April 16, 1941.
He received his training at the
U. S. Naval Training Station, San
Diego, Calif.

Ensign McPherson enlisted in the
U. S. Naval Reserve in May, 1943,
and is stationed in Washington,
D. C. He was employed by the
federal government at Washington,
prior to entering service. His
wife, Mrs. Ruth McPherson, also
resides in the capital.
Ensign McPherson attended Cle-
burne schools and Texas A. & M.
College.
