Swensonites turned out in a
good way for the Old Settlers
Reunion in Aspermont on Thurs-
day. Seen during the afternoon
activities in early pioneer cos-
tumes were J^rs. Paul Hallford,
Mrs. W. R. Trammel, Mrs. Ted
Freeman, Mrs. Glen Hoy, Mrs.
Brady Shadle,' Karen Shadle and'
Judy Woods Mrs. John Woods
went dressed in Indian costume.
Others among the crowd were
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Trammel, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Hoy, Mr. Pat
Hoy, Mr. Paul Gardner, Mr. Ted
Freeman, Mrs. Claud Penrod,
Mrs. Oliver Penrod, Mrs. Darvin
Hill snd Glenda, Mrs. Ward Gar-
dner, Mrs. Cecil Norris, Mrs. Don
Campbell, Mrs. L. C. Freeman,
Mrs. Mabel Hall, Mrs. Jake Hail
with Gary, Russell and Karen
and Mrs. Henley Diggs with
David and Danny, Mr. Darvin
Hill and Kellye rode horseback
in the parade. James Woods
played trombone with the As-
permont School Band and march-
ed in the parade.
Also there were Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Garza and their children,
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Yarborough,
Mr. and Mrs. Houston Ward, Mr.
and Mrs. Reese Ward and Mr.
and Mrs. N. L. Winters. Jan and
Linda Winters and Thomas Hart
rode horseback during the par-
ade. The crowds were big and
moving, the women so dressed
up and the men so ruggedly
handsome that I was fairly blind-
ed by the glare and so probably
missed seeing more people than I
saw and recognized.
Attending the rodeo for at
ieast one performance were Mr.
and Mrs. Wayne McMeans, Mr.
Jake Hall with Gary and Russell,
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Freeman, Mr.
and Mrs. N. L. Winters, Mr. and
Mrs. John Woods, Mr. and Mrs.
Ned Ward, Herman McLaury.
Also Dennis Hill, Jan Winters,
James Woods, Judy Woods and
Jerry Woods. Doyle Hart entered
the flag race, and Ned Ward was
a rodeo official who lowered the
flag for the barrel racers. Mr.
Mrs. John Woods, Reporter
Ward also contested as heeler
with Pat Mitchell as header on
a head and heel team.
Trigger Trammel's sister of
Lorenzo visited in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Trammel re-
cently with other members of
"her family. These guests were
Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Dunham and
Brenda with her infant daughter.
Mr. Hubert Roach, County At-
torney, and Mr. Harry McAfee,
Count Tax Assessor-Collector,
were in Houston June 16 as dele
gates from Stonewall County to
the Texas Democratic Conven-
tion. Two resolutions passed by
the County Convention carried
in the State Convention. These
were pledging our support of
Lyndon B. Johnson as party no-
minee for president and endors-
ig conservative John Connally as
Party leader of the state delega-
tion to the National Democratic
Convention in Atlantic City, New
Jersey on August 24. The state
delegation of 120 will attend un-
der the unit rule. This means
that the group will vote as one
on all questions. Evidently it
did not register with our county
delegation that the county con-
vention had instructed them to
atend under he unit rule also. In
any case Stonewall County, with
only two votes, cast a split vote.
To my knowledge ours was the
only count of Texas' 254 to so
vote. It's too bad our delegates
did not agree.
Guests in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Preston Gardner recently
have been their granddaughter,
Jana Garner of Abilene, who
spent the week, and their son,
Sonny Gardner ad his girl friend
Andria Adcock of Abilene, who
came for the week end. Sonny
and Andria are summer school
students at Abilene Christian
College.
And speaking of mispelled
words—How about getting a cor-
rect spelling of the name of our
.county seat town on the Veazey
Ford Motor Company sign that
is on highway 380 between Swen-
son and Aspermont. A good tip
to those hiring professional sign
painters. Check the sign for er- j
ror before accepting the sign and
paying for the services.
Father's Day slipped by almost
unnoticed since most everyone
was occupied with reunion af-
fairs. .However'the W. S. Proc-
tors were honored guests at a
combination birthday, Father's
Day dinner in Stamford Sunday j
at the home of their son Gerald
and his family.
Mrs. J. M. Harvey and Vickie
of Stamford were in Aspermont
last Thursday visiting friends
Miss Glenda Hoy of Abilepe
was home with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Hoy over the
week end and nad part in the
reunion activities.
