“Stress Management”
Center ISD will host a horticultural sale, March
17 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., to benefit the high
school’s Horticultural department. The sale will take
place at the Center HS Agriscience Building, which is
located behind the high school and beside the football
fields. Some of the items on sale will be succulent gar-
dens, plant sets, pallet gardens and ferns.
Homecoming and revival services will take place
at Spann’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church be-
ginning March 22. The message will be brought
by Bro. Lamar Denby. Service time will be 10 a.m.
on Sunday for Sunday School and service time will
begin at 11 a.m. Sunday night service will begin at
5:30 p.m. and weeknight services will take place at
7 p.m.
The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce
will hold their 8th annual Health and Fitness Fair
Thursday, March 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the
Windham Civic Center. Come gain information about
your health and healthcare resources in the area.
Mammogram units, blood mobile, hospice, home
health, bone density, diabetes, and other routine
health screening are available. The event is free to

Panola College will host its annual 5K run to benefit
the Panola College Foundation Endowment Saturday,
March 28. This year the college will feature a color run,
along with its traditional 5k, to commemorate the fifth
year of community support.
The event will be held at Panola College in front of
the Phoebe Sue Perlman Student Center. The competi-
tive 5k run will begin at 8:45 am. It will be followed by
the 5k color run at 9am. Individuals can register for the
events by visiting the “Panola College 5k Color Run” on
the webpage Active.com.
The cost for either run is $30. Each runner will re-
ceive a free t-shirt and gift bag. Prizes will be handed
out for the top performers. Early packet pick-up for reg-
istered runners will be on Friday, March 27, from 3 p.m.
to 8 p.m. in the Student Center. Runners must register
online before Tuesday, March 24. Later registration will
take place from 7a.m. until 8:15 a.m. on the day of the
run and will not include a free shirt.
Pleasant Grove Baptist church will hold a women’s
conference March 28 beginning at 9 a.m. This years
theme is Put on the whole armor of God. The speaker
will be Pastor Cheryl Lacey Donova. Other guest speak-
ers include missionary Brendi Carilla, minister Yolanda
Neal and sister Stephanie Hicks. A love offering will be
taken.

Historical Society hosts guest speaker
The Shelby County Historical Society will meet on
Tuesday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at the Shelby County
museum on Pecan Street. The guest speaker will be
Bill O’Neal, our Texas State Historian.
Food Bank makes stop in Haslam
The East Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry is
coming to the First Baptist Church in Halsam March
18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This new program
is design to help provide nutritious foods to those in
need. The mobile pantry will be distributing food once
a month. Each month families can receive a box of
nutritious foods such as meat, vegestables, fruit, rice,
beans, bread and pastas.
If you make less 185 percent of the poverty level
($21,257 or less for a household of 1; $28,964 or less for
a household of 2; $36,131 or less for a household of 3;
$43,586 or less for a household of 4; etc.) you qualify.

Recycle trailer available in Joaquin
The Recycle Trailer will be in Joaquin March 23
through March 30. The frailer will be located on the Joa-
quin city square in front of the Ram House. Recyclable
materials include: paper, aluminum, plastic, and card-
board. Glass, batteries, and electronics are prohibited.

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce an-
nounces that the Grill Fest sanctioned barbecue cook-
off sponsored by Farmers State Bank will take place
Saturday, March 21 on the grounds of the Windham
Civic Center.
“Over $6,500 will be awarded in prize money to reg-
istered cook teams. Cook teams may register and enter
the contest with a $200 registration fee prior to March
17 or $250 after that date,” according to Kimberly
McElroy, Grill Fest Chairman. The barbecue cook-off
is sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society.
Prize money for the top three cook teams will be
awarded in three categories - Pork Spare Ribs, Chick-
en and Brisket. First place is $1,000, second place $750
and third place $500. Trophies will be awarded for
Grand Champion and Reserve Champion. Set-up, meat
inspection and cooking will begin Friday afternoon,
March 20. Cook teams may also take part in the Bean
Cook-Off with a $10 entry fee and jackpot prize.
An entry wristband will be $10 with the public invit-
ed to sample tastings of barbecue at cook team stations.
In addition to the Chillin’ and Grillin’, there will be a
washer Pitching Tournament sponsored by Shelby Sav-
ings Bank, a 42 Tournament and live music.
