FRAZIER'S CAFE
Once Popular 'Noah's Ark' Toy
Is Now Missing From Yule Scene
Where there are children,
this holiday .season, there's
usually a Christmas tree
brightly lighted, gaily deco-
rated, its fragrant brunches
bending low aver a vertitable
"Toyland" of gifts from San-
ta's lavish pack.
These days, the variety of
toys to enchant, entertain
and instruct the youngsters
is practically limitless. The
toy pack holds, it seems,
everything and anything that
a lucky < Ink! might see in
his dreams.
A century or so ago, the
picture was vimy different.
I'A'en the (mist mas tree it
self was not as likely to be a
park of the holiday scene. A-
round the middle of the nine-
teenth century, tin- Sunday
.school movement li id begun
to popularize the idea of lain-
ilv Christmas fees, but
tree at home was still not
something a child Would take
for granted.
As for the toys, under the
tree or not, the usual gift
might be onl> one loy, and
that one not a toy that mod
ern children would n cognize.
This is not to say, how-
ever, that ninetee nth i <-n!ui v
children were to be pit t 'ed
In a single to\\ the "Noah's
