Seven Henderson players con-
tributed at least two points in the
third quarter as the Lions went on
an 18-11 run to take charge of the
game. Carthage trimmed a point off
the lead in the final eight minutes,
buy never got the upper hand. t
It was the Dawgs' 11th loss in
26 outings, Henderson's 16th win
in 27 starts.
Lyndric Washington nine and
Blanton and Jason Barr eight each.
Once again the Lions dominated
the boards, allowing the Dawgs just
23 rebounds. It also mattered that
Carthage made just 24 of 55 field
goal attempts, only four of 12 from
three-point range.
Kerry Hodge made eight of 14
from the floor and was perfect at
the line for 21 points for the
Dawgs. He was three of seven from
beyond the arch.
Cedric Pellum made just four of
15 from the floor to finish with 11
points. He also had 10 rebounds for
a double-double. S r.

Carthage led 16-15 at the quar-
ter break and 33-32 at halftime.
HENDERSON - Will anyone
wanting to represent 16-AAAA in
the bi-district round of the state
playoffs please make application.
If not, Carthage will by default
Since the start of the second
round of district play, the Dawgs
have managed just one win (by one
point) over Gilmer and two losses
to Kilgore and Henderson.
Still coach Earl Claiborne's
charges are clinging to second
place, one game ahead of Hallsville
and two ahead of Henderson and
Kilgore, with three games remain-
ing.
The winner. Pine Tree, gets a
first round bye. Second place plays
third place in 15-AAAA in bi-dis-
trict, and third place meets second.
All of this means little to any of
1 the four teams involved right now.
Just getting to the state playoffs
will apparently be a monumental
task.
Henderson got a big boost from
Tim Blanton Tuesday as the Lions
knocked off Carthage, 65-60, to
keep their hopes alive. Blanton
missed the first encounter between
the arch rivals and Carthage won,
67-51. What a difference eight
points made.
Charles Simpson paced the Li-

Bailey made some lineup
changes that seemed to help.
Adrian Hill got more playing time
and tallied a team-high 21 points.
Maurice Young contributed nine
points and seven assists as the
starter at point guard. Herman Scott
added 16 points and nine rebounds.
Robert Farlow had 11 points. Roy
Candley had 12 points and eight
rebounds.
Scott was seven of 13 from the
floor, Candley four of eight.
Panola hosts Jacksonville Satur-
day at 7:30 in its next outing. The
high-flying Jaguars are second in
league standings and boast a gaudy
16-3 season record. Panola is now
4-15.
by 46-35.
Even well into the final period,
Panola was ahead - by as much as
eight with 3:26 showing.
"Three or four turnovers were
costly. We couldn't close it out,'
Pony coach Rennie
lamented.
Clark made seven three-point
goals, two deuces and a free throw
in the closing 20 minutes (26 of his
game-high 27) to guide the BuCs
out of harm's way.
Rick Maiden scored 13 of his 14
total in the closing stanza. Jamal
Chretien had 12 for the game,
seven after intermission. The Buc-
caneers took the final period with a
56-38 run.
Ponies might overcome long odds
on the road, but Maurice Claik had
not warmed sufficiently to the task were torrid from three-point range
by halftime and so his club trailed with nine goals in 14 chances
(64%).
The game was won on the foul
line with Blinn making 26 of 36
while the Ponies managed 17 of
« just 27.
Bailey
