unable to post bond.
During his incarceration, nu-
merous psychological tests have
been performed in an attempt to
determine his mental suite of mind.
‘According to Davidson,, who
will be trying his third murder case
in 12 months, the case is unique for
him since it is the first where a plea
of insanity will be offered in de-
fense of capitol murder.
Davidson explained that his job
was to prove beyond a reasonable
doubt that Mathews committed the
crime in a criminal episode.

It is now possible to reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses or
contact lenses!
Laser vision correction, both LASIK and PRK, are permanent procedures
that can change the way you view the world.
Dr. Lehmann utilizes the laser to gently reshape the front surface of the
eye using a cool ultraviolet beam of light. Thia reshaping helps the eye
focus properly, therefore reducing or eliminating the need for corrective
eyewear. Generally, the laser removes less than the thickness of one human
hair from the cornea.
The procedure la performed on an outpatient basis and 100% of patients
treated in the FDA clinical trials experienced significant Improvement In
uncorrected vision (vision without glasses or contacts).
The laser can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism
snd most people return to normal activities within one to three days. The
vast majority of patients who have had the procedure are able to pass a
driver's test without glasses or contacts.

prove beyond the preponderance of
the evidence that his Mathews did
not know his actions.
"The defense has indicated they
will try and prove Mathews suf-
fered from a mental disease or de-
fect due to extensive years of alco-
hol and drug abuse, and that he did
not know his actions at the time,’’
said Davidson.
McPherson is awaiting what he
believes are the last of the psycho-
logical test results, which should be
received this weekend.
"Those results should not delay
the trial in any way," said McPher-
son, who indicated be is prepared
for the trial to last the entire week
in Center.
After hearing testimony pre-
sented in the case, jurors will con-

guilty, or not guilty by reason of

making the restoration process a
success ip Carthage.
Speaking to the group, she,
detailed qualities a downtown must
possess to be successfully restored.
Any downtown area must have a
necdon with the insanity plea to unique identity for the community.
Something particular only to the
town.
The area should have general
gathering places. Buildings and
stores that have been in the area for
a long time. Buildings like banks,
media, older c___1___
governmental offices, police and
county offices, clothing stores,
cleaners, business offices, libraries,
etc.
The renovation area must also
be a place that is not segregated to
any particular race or group.
Everyone should feel welcome. A
sense of community should abound
in the area.
Lastly, Stapleton stated, the old
historical architectural buildings
should still be able to be utilized.
This architecture is usually seen on
banks, courthouses, libraries, jails,
etc. u .
Stapleton explained that
renovating historical areas would
also bring a better economy into
the town.
"Many people out there are
heritage travelers that do not want
with bringing in new businesses
that are needed.
According to Stapleton, the glue
that will hold the whole project
together is having a full time
person keeping the coordination of
efforts in focus for everyone
an organization and town to focus involved.
"Consensus and cooperation are
needed to work on a
comprehensive goal," Stapleton
emphasized.
