Fred Phifer Catches
Coypu In Mink Trap
Fred Phifer of Deport was in
town Thursday showing a coypu
which he had caught in a trap on
Mustang creek at the intersec-
tion of the W. H. Thompson and
Bob Read pastures, about a mile
north of town. Mr. Phifer, who
has been doing some trapping
this winter, ran his traps Wed-
nesday and found the coypu dead
in a mink trap.
The coypu is a South American
aquatic rodent, having webbed
hind feet. It produces fur called
nutria. It is similar to an over-
size rat. The one brought in by
Mr. Phifer weighed 12% lbs. and,
Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Hutchings
and Mrs. B. K. Hollingsworth at-
tended open house honoring Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Reeves on their 50th
wedding anniversary in Mt. Ver-
non Sunday afternoon. Mrs.
Reeves is a cousin of the ladies.

The Women’s Auxiliary nf the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church
met Feb. 1 with Mrs. John Chil-
ders. Eight members were pres-
ent. Mrs. Childers directed the
lesson on Japan. Refreshments
were served. The next meeting
will be March 1 at the home of
Mrs. Bettie Miller, with Mrs.
Floyd Bell as leader.
Mrs. Chet Lowry is recuperat-
ing at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Billie Proctor in Ft. Worth,
following a minor operation last
week in a hospital there, and is
reported improving.

home of Mr. and Mrs.
Soward in Clarksville,
She accompanied Mrs.
Quinn and Mr. and Mrs
Soward of Mt. Pleasant, Mr. and

Some Commissioners Courts
and City Councils are unable to
see eye-to-eye on the Council
placing parking meters on coun-
ty property and collecting the
revenue for the city treasury.
Tliis happened at Mt. Pleasant
and county property around the
court house has no meters. A
similar case has come up in
Camp County, at Pittsburg.
Judge Sam William* will hear
this case on March 2. according
to the Gazette.
A newspaper man would have
little to do in the town of Mal-
leret, France. None of the in-
habitants died, there were no
births and no couple got married
last year.

home from Dallas Tuesday, after
