Ninety Per Cent
Fruit Crop Lost
Cold weather of early March,
with temperatures down to 26 de-
grees, dealt Elberta peaches a
stinging blow, says J. F. Rosbrfr-
ough. Extension Horticultural
Marketing Specialist. One week
later a second freeze with tem-
peratures as low as 24 degrees F.
just about finished the varieties
which escaped errlier damage. A
few orchards at Jacksonville
have as much as 25-30 per cent
of a crop,. The Gilmer and Avery
areas are almost a total loss. It
appears that 26 degrees F. was
the temperature which was the
dividing line between total loss
and some survival.

Detroit.—A fortune in cash and
securities—perhaps a hoard to-
taling $500,000—has been found
in the cluttered flat home of <16-
year-old Mrs. Carrie Wherritt.
Widowed Mrs. Wherritt, a
rags-wearing recluse, was dis-
closed in a police search to be a
wealthy woman instead of the
nearly impoverished person as
neighbors knew her.
In a safe in her flat police
found $291,800 in cash. They said
there was at least that much or
more in securities.

Belt train en route to Dallas. Mrs.

Pleasant, was driver of the car.
