Mozelle Ramsay, outstand-
ing local artist, has begun a
number of canvases for the
local arts, crafts show here on
October 2
Mrs. Ramsay has been
painting since 1935. She took
lessons form the late Mrs. A. E.
Brooks, a native of Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Ramsay was a young,
married woman at the time
She painted from early after-
noon until late in the day for
fifty cents a day. She would
paint until her husband,
Landon, picked her up
Mrs. Ramsay took a com- I
mercial art instruction cor-
respondence course over a
period of a year and a half early
in her career and has that
diploma in her studio behind
her house.
She paints regularly and
excellently in a number of
mediums; oils, pastels, and
water colors. She paints
> portraits and also turns out
beautiful china painUn^Als
is her favorite medium, she
says, “The beauty of oil
painting is that you can think
about and study the picture and
years later you can change,
rework and improve it if you
wish to.”
Mrs. Ramsay credits a
number of fine artists with
helping her' develop her .
techinque; Frederic Taubes,
Raymond Froman and Felton
Pope.
Of the four Ramsay children,
Tom, Lanny, Cynthia and
Rosalind. Rosalind is the one
who is a fine artist in her own
right. Mrs. Ramsay hopes
Rosalind will have a booth at
the show, too.
The Key Club encourages
the following to sign up for a
booth: 1. Share a booth with a
friend, 2. Local clubs, scout
troops, rest homes, 3. Invite a
friend to come to the show.
Audits Bring In Taxes
Comptroller Bob Bullock said
the July enforcement program
of his Tyler district office
totaled 9107,248 in field collec-
tions and revealed through
audits 3389,041 in additional
taxes owed the state.
Bullock said the office
conducted 28 audits during
July, yielding an average 3848
in additional taxes owed per
audit hour.
The Comptroller emphasized
that collections by the Tyler
office are in addition to state
taxes routinely paid from the
Tyler area directly to Austin.
“This is money we can’t put
in the bank until we go out and
get it,” Said Bullock.
Statewide field collections by
the Comptroller’s 38 district
offices totaled 34.9 million
diving July, with the combined
audit efforts producing 83 3
million in additional revenue
owed the state.
The Tyler office, headed by
Robbie Leard, is located at 2010
West Southwest Loop 323,
telephone 561-5033, and is open
