FIFTY-ONE YEARS AGO
(March 31, 1921)
Tuesday evening the Peacock ball
team crossed bats with the Asper-
mont team on Aspermonts ground,
the final score showed Aspermont 10,
Peacock 5.
The Pasttime Club met Thursday at
the home of Mrs. Evans, janquils,
ferns and wild flowers were used in
decorating tne rooms.
An election is hereby ordered for
the purpose of electing a Mayor, five
alderman and a City Marshal for the
city of Aspermont, to be held in
Aspermont on the first Tuesday in
April.
SWENSON SCHOOL NOTES
Our junior boys were greatly
disappointed Saturday as they were
expecting a game of basketball with
Old Glory, but for some unknown
reason they did not come.
Sunday afternoon the school en-
joyed an Easter egg hunt in the
beautiful pasture of John W. Hoy.
Seven more weeks and our school
will close. The pupils have been
requested to study harder than ever
before to make sure of their grades.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
(March 27, 1952)
There will be a school trustee
election held in each of the districts of
Stonewall County on Saturday, April
5.
It is understood that several new
candidates have filed for these
positions and that a lively election is
in the offing.
Supt. T. C. Clark and the faculty
and student body of the Aspermont
school are readying plans to be host to
visiting students and faculty mem-
bers at the district Intersc >c!astic
League meet, which will be hela here
tomorrow (Friday). Nine schools will
be represented in the various events
to be staged for competition. They are
Avoca, Hawley, Lawn, Leuders,
South Taylor, Trent, Old Glory and
Aspermont.
The ladies of the First Baptist
Church are to send as many crates of
eggs as can be collected to the Baptist
orphanages at Dallas Round Rock
and San Antonio. Those wishing to
donate eggs may leave them at any
store in town. All donations will be
greatly appreciated.
On next Tuesday voters of the
City of Aspermont will go to the polls
for the purpose of electing a mayor
and two councilmen. A light vote is
forecast.
TEN YEARS AGO
(March 29, 1962)
Aspermont High School's
production of "Sparkin" won first
place in District 8-A competition
Friday night in Roby High School
auditorium.
The public is invited to attend a
Chili Supper sponsored by the
Stonewall County Farm Bureau. It
will be held Thursday, March 29, in
the Court Room of the Stonewall
County Court House at 7:00 p.m.
The Annual 4-H Talent Show will be
held at the Aspermont Auditorium,
April 2, starting at 7:30 p.m.
John Godfrey set one meet record
and tied another Saturday afternoon
as six new marks were set in the fifth
annual Rochester Invitational Track
meet in Rochester.
Wind eroision is still a serious
conservation planning and
management.
The First County-Wide 4-H and
FHA Girls' Fair will be held Saturday
starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Aspermont
Home Economics Department. The
Fair is open to all 4-H and FHA girls
in Stonewall County. The event is
sponsored jointly by the Aspermont
Phoenix Club and the Aspermont
FHA and 4-H club.

Clyde Littlepage Dies In
Funeral Services
Held Monday for
Waymon Smith Ireland, Rites Held Here
Funeral service for Waymon
Smith, 65, who died Saturday in
Stamford Memorial Hospital,
was at 2:30 p.m. Monday in
First Methodist Church.
Officiating were the Rev.
Alby Cockrell of Levelland and
the Rev. Elmer Ward, pastor.
Burial was in Aspermont
Cemetery under the direction of
Littlepage Funeral Home.
Survivors are his wife, Vista;
two sons, Don and Jeff, both of
Pierre, S. D.; three grand-
children; his mother, Mrs.
Willie Smith of Fort Sumner, N.
Mex.; one sister, Mrs. E. D.
Fikany of Fort Sumner, N.
Mex.; two brothers, Ross Smith
of Tahoka and Lee Smith.
Pallbearers were J. L. Hill,
Ryland Gleaton, J. C.
Moor house, H. G. Flowers,
Ralph Riddle, Elvin Jones,
Frederick Dalby and Fred
Martin.

Salad Supper
Set Apr. 8
The Phoenix Club will hold a
salad supper in the
Homemaking Cottage Sat., Apr.
8, beginning at 6:30 p.m. A
fashion show will follow at 7:30
p.m.
Tickets will go on sale the
first week of April. Contact

Mr. and Mrs. Gien Ellison,
Allen and Keith of Canadian
visited their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Poore and Mr. and
Mrs. Miles Ellison.
Clyde William Littlepage, 62,
owner and operator of Lit-
tlepage Funeral Home, died
Saturday, Mar. 18, in Dublin,
Ireland, of natural causes.
Funeral was held at 10 a.m.
Saturday in First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Clyde
Cook of Shallowater and the
Rev. Hal Upchurch, pastor,
officiating.
Burial was in Benjamin
Cemetery under the direction of
Hob Smith and Kenneth Aulds,
a former partner.
Mr. Littlepage was born Nov.
30,1909, in Hamilton County. He
was raised in the Benjamin-
Knox City area and had lived in
Aspermont for the past ten
years. He served in the U. S.
Army for 17 years, retiring as a
major.
He belonged to the American
Legion, Aspermont Jaycees,
Masons and Texas Funeral
Directors Assn.
He graduated from mor-
tician's school in Houston and
worked in Rosenberg and the
Dallas-Fort Worth area before
moving to Aspermont. He was a
former co-owner of Aulds-
Littlepage Funeral Home in
Archer City.
He purchased the Aspermont
Funeral Home from Billy M.
Young in 1962. Two years later,
he was voted "Man of the Year"
by the Aspermont Jaycees. He
was on vacation in Ireland at

won by Johnny Johnson and the

Talent Show Monday
The 15th annual 4-H Talent
Show was held Monday night at
the Aspermont Junior High
Auditorium, There were 102 4-H
boys and girls competing in 31
different acts.
Leland Workman served as
master of ceremonies. Judges
were Mr. and Mrs. Ted Elliott of
Haskell.

Preschool Day Activities
Planned Here for Apr. 13
The annual preschool day
activities will be held Thursday,
Apr. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Students currently in the first
grade will not come to school aa
that day.
Children whose sixth birthday
comes on or before Aug. 31,
1972, will be enrolled next fall.
The school has names of 15
children who will be enrolled.
Anyone having a child or
knowing of a child who was not
living in the cdunty in January
is asked to contact Joe Searcy
at 989-3323.
All preschool children must
be accompanied by a parent or
guardian in order for the
necessary information to be
obtained. All first grade
students must have had
required shots before entering
school in the fall.
A birth certificate is required
for each first grade student.
Parents are asked to bring the
birth certificate on preschool
day so that a copy may be made
for the school's permanent
records.
Lunches will be served free of
charge to the preschool
children. A nominal fee will be
charged for the parent's lunch.
Each parent will be
responsible for getting his child
to and from school. School buses
will not be used due to the dif-
ference in the time schedule.
Each accountable preschool
child will receive a personal
invitation in the mail prior to
the meeting time. Parents will
also receive letters containing
information concerning the
activities of the day.
