HRicI prices have skyrocketed out of
all proportion to the cost of produc-
ing these fuels. And fuel — oil, coal,
gas, etc. — is a major cost factor in
making electricity.
Fuel is used in electric generators to
make electricity, and the cost of
these generators has soared, too. For
instance, in 1965 a typical coal-fired
unit cost from $125 to $175 a kilo-
watt. During 1975 that same gener-
ator cost from $400 to $600 a kilo-

watt. During that same decade the
cost of building transmission and dis-
tribution lines increased 44%. Inter-
est rates have jumped dramatically
and new environmental require-
ments are increasing capital costs.
Until we find new sources of energy,
and bring fuel cost under control,
energy conservation must be every-
body's business----yours and that
of your local, consumer-owned elec-
tric system.
Your wise use of this valuable serv-
ant, electricity, will save you money,
and help conserve the nation's
energy resources.
We urge you to make a personal
commitment to avoid wasting
energy. Let us know if we can pro-
vide any information to help you
conserve energy.
