John Honnicutt and Daughter Holly
Infants bom during this year's Great American Smokeout
will get a headstart on a lifetime of health with special
t-shirts provided by the American Cancer Society and
Denton Regional Medical Center.
The shirts, with the message, "I'm a bom nonsmoker,"
are a way of welcoming these children to what we hope will
» be 3 long and healthful life. Children are bom nonsmokers.

Sanger voters Joined the rest of the nation in voting
for George Bush last Tuesday. Bush had 482 votes in
Sanger to 288 for Dukakis. Krum voted 455 to 288 for were awarded two Division I-
Dukakis. Bolivar 256 to 132 in favor of Bush.
For U.S. Senator Bentsen had 407 to 354 for Beau
Boulter. Krum had 434 for over Bentsen and 340 for
Boulter.
For Congress Dick Armey had 516 votes to 247 for
Reyes in Sanger. In Krum Armey had
a 473 to 294 majority.
Tip Hall carried Sanger by 438 to 310 for Ben
Campbell. Krum had 536 to 243 for Campbell. Bolivar Dana Smith,
voted Campbell ahead of Hall 215 to 167. Smith.
Campbell was reelected to his state rep post.

Honnicutt said. After his daughter. Holly, was bom at
Denton Regional Medical Center's Wonen's Pavilion he told
his wife, Debra Goen, that he will stop smoking for Holly.
The t-shlrt that Holly Is wearing Is from the American
Cancer Society with a message "I'm a bom nonsmoker."
Holly, the American Cancer Society, and Denton Regional
Medical Center encourage smokers and nonsmokers to
participate in the Great American Smokeout .

Contest at Haltom High
School In Fort Worth. Each
school that was represented
entered a team routine and
then had the option of
entering an officer routine.
The Charmers, the only
3A school represented
entered both categories, and
competed against 4A and 5A
schools. including
Bridgeport. Cleburne.
Trinity, and Haltom City.
The Charmers performed a

The Texas Eagle Amtrak Inagural run Monday began at 8 am
with a Jazz band sendoff. In Corsicana about 300 people turned
out to welcome the train, most of the people there had never seen
a passenger train.

and two helicopters from Houston TV stations followed the train
to Houston.
Mayor Armstrong told the Courier last week that she thinks
there is a strong possibility that the Amtrak route from Dalls to
Newton, Kansas will be reinstated in the near future.At the
November 21 city council meeting Mayor Armstrong will present
a resolution supporting the reinstatement of the route and the
establishment of Sanger as a flag stop for the train In Denton
County.

Jerry Jenkins was report-
edly resting well at Denton's
Regional Hospital Tuesday.
Jenkins suffered a blood
clot and possible damage to
his heart Monday morning.
Jenkins was in ICU Tues-
day and only members of

allowed to visit Jenkins.
Jenkins is a Dallas fire De-
