Jacobs wants to drop
Pledge of Alligance
Sandy Jacobs, Commissioner precinct 2, continued her
demand that the court revise its weekly agenda. The agenda
make up is normally the function of the County Judge
However, Jacobs wants certain items changed to Improve
the flow of business that comes before the court. At the last
meeting of the court (November 1). discussion came up over
where the item "citizens who wish to speak to the
commissioners’’ would be placed on the agenda and how
long citizens could speak to the court. Suggestions ranged
from three minutes to five minutes.
This week (November 7) Jacobs suggested the court drop
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Also, an Item named "A
Moment of Silence." Jacobs said her objection was that
neither item had anything to do with the business before the
court.

Some people who attend these meetings have often
remarked that "A Moment of Silence" was the best thing
about the meeting. Jacobs suggested the meeting open with
payment of the bills. This would drop approval of the
minutes of the previous to second place.
Vic Burgess, County Judge, who originally set up the
agenda order didn't make any suggestions and listened to
Jacobs very placidly. He did say such discussions as this
should be heard in a work session. "1 don't think so,"
snapped Jacobs. No action was taken.
The county did approve the award of bids for the purchase
of gasoline when Jerry Romine, County purchasing agent
told the court that gasoline prices fluctuates up and down
with oil prices and arriving at a fair bid for the county and
supplier was difficult.
'The price is up one day, down the next day, therefore, we
have accepted a bld that gives the distributor the same
margin of profit. The distributor must keep a record of his
cost and show us the source of his gasoline." Ruth Tansey
said she was more concerned about quality of the gas than
price and reminded the court of the counties experience with
low quality gasoline.
