The UIL certainly needs to realign the football districts.
I’m not sure that smaller schools like Sanger and
Whitesboro can compete with schools nearly double the
enrollment such as Gainesville and Southlake. It ain't fair!
Last Friday Southlake Carroll defeated Whitesboro 84 to
0. Whitesboro trailed 63-0 at halftime. In the second half the
timekeeper was told by game officials to keep the clock
running because coach Ledbetter of Carroll probably didn't
wa nt to score 100 points against Whitesboro.
The clock was never stopped In the 4th period when
Southlake scored only 7 points. Whitesboro had only 1 first
down in the game, -8 yards rushing and 9 yards passing.
David Blanchard scored 6 touchdowns for Southlake
Carroll.
I'm surprised that Coach Ledbetter didn't run the score up
to 100. In the first half against Sanger his team called a time
out to try to get one final TD before the half. Southlake was
leading Sanger 35-0 at the half.
The Sanger kids haven t quit this year, they are short on
numbers and size but certainly have the guts to mix It up
with the larger schools. They are a credit to the community.
The main thing for all of us to do is to VOTE. WiGi the dirty,
mud slinging presidential campaign we've had its easy to
$ay, "ah heck, I don't care who wins." But it is Important to
vote on the local level. It means tax dollars If we get the right
folks in office. You can still vote absentee and avoid those
long lines on election day.
These are my personal choices, but I predict that Denton
County is going to be another Republican grand slam as It
was 4 years ago. Any Republican candidate Is probably going
to win and win big. Which is a shame because a lot of good
Democrat candidates are going to defeat.

House kills on*
The Haunted House was a scary winner!
Over 300 kids paid $2 each to be scared out of
their wits at the Chamber of Commerce
haunted House.
Chamber President Sam Burrus called the
two day event, "a great success." All the
scarries were there, Freddie Krueger, the
Chain Saw massacrer, Elvira....all the bad guys

Charges expected to
be filed in burglary
Armando's Restaurant, south of Sanger, was
robbed early Sunday morning when a crew
moved most of the contents of the building into
a large trailer. Denton police responded to the
burglar but no charges were filed as of Tuesday
morning. The incident is being investigated by
the District Attorney s office and theft charges
are expected to be filed.
According to informed sources,a former
Sanger man evidently hired several youths to
move the contents, saying he owned the
property and was taking back his equipment
The burglary was discovered when a cook,
driving down the freeway at 2 am noticed lights
on inside the restaurant. He called the owner of
the restaurant, Armando Duhart, who called the
Denton Police Department.
At least 8 Denton police cars showed up while
the workers were still taking equipment out of
the restaurant.
The burglars even took the curtains, one
computer, several stoves, chairs, tables, nearly
everything but two large commercial freezers.
The restaurant reopened for business Tuesday
afternoon after the equipment was moved back
into the building. Damage estimates have not
been released pending the investigation.
With the election one week away I have a few candidates
that I think deserve support. As for President I'm not proud
of any of them. The Democrats could have had a stronger
ticket. I wish It were Bentsen/Dukakis. that ticket would
have won. Bush made a terrible mistake picking Quayle. I
certainly question Bush's first decision. If he's elected I hope
he makes better decisions In the fture.
For the State Senator race we have two very good
candidates. Democrat Steve Carrlker has taken too many
donations from the Personal Property lawyers In this state
to suit me. Bobby Albert, the Republican candidate has done
very little campaigning around North Denton County but I
found him very much against-higher workmans com.:
insurance rates. As a small businessman I think comp
insurance is the number 2 problem in Texas after school
financing.
In the State Rep races , I like Jim Hom for District 59 and
Tip Hall for District 61. Tip probably won't win because he's
in a very strong Republican district but he did a very good
Job when he served as state representative before Campbell.
The District Judge race has two very good men, incumbent
Charles Davis and David White. Davis, the Democrat,
probably won't win but he certainly deserves another shot.
He has done an outstanding Job as District Judge in Denton
County. He has not backed down to the South Denton county
gang that has run this county. Davis deserves reelection .
I also endorse Congressman Dick Armey. He is easily
the most outstanding congressman in Washington.
I realize that endorsing candidates for a small wrekly
newspaper is the quickest way to lose subscribers but I make
my picks only the way I see it. In some races I don’t know
enough about either candidate to make a pick.
Culture Is coming to Sanger. The Cultural Arts Committee
hasbooked the Texas Boy’s Choir to appear in Sanger in
December.
Don’t forget to travel to Coppell Friday night to see the
Indians in their last football game of the year.
A lot of the kids will be playing their last game, the wins (3)
haven't been many this year but the kids haven't quit...they
have done their best.

Pauline Garrett.home town lady,will take
over the position of Sanger Chamber of
Commerce secretary effective November 11.
She replaces Debbie Tucker, Executive Vice
President who resigned last month.
Mrs. Garrett was a 1967 graduate of Sanger
High School and is well known in the Sanger
community. Pauline and two other local girls
grew up singing gospel songs in church and
that led to a professional career. According to
Pauline, the three girls styled a lot of their
music after the Supremes. "We were called the
' Baby Dolls', we sang professionally for 3 years,
we never made the big time but we had a lot of
fun," explained Mrs. Garrett. The big break to
to the three girls and they
went their seperate ways.
' Since singing professionally Mrs. Garrett has
worked at J.C. Penny, and the Republic Bank of
Dallas, where she served as a supervisor of
Accounts.
Pauline is the daughter of Rev. Paul & Arlene
Henderson and she has one son, Rodney
Garrett, who gained fame as a local football star
at Sanger High.
Pauline will open the Chamber office each
day from 1 to 5 pm, Monday thru Friday. Her
personality and enthusiasm landed her the job
over 20 other applicants. "I love this Job, it's
not hard to get excited about Sanger, I thank I
can pick things up around here," explained
Mrs. Garrett.
The Sanger Chamber of Commerce is feeling
the financial woes that have hit all of Texas but
Pauline is determined to move the Chamber
forward with new ideas and an enlarged
membership.
Commissioners consider $2.8
million for Rayzor Building
The Denton county Commissioners In the October 24th
meeting decided that the $2.8 proposed renovation of the old
Rayzon Building funding will not be funded by a bond
election but rather by the vote of the commissioners.
Lee Walker, Commissioner Precinct 3, said, "I don't think
a bond election will ever pass now or ever on this building."
Apparently the entire court agreed with her. Commissioner
Walker may have been recalling a bond election November
5, 1984 when the county voters were asked to vote on this
same proposal and turned It down by more than 2 to 1.
The court did get the full support of the Denton Main
Street Committee and the Denton Chamber of Commerce for
the renovation. Jack D. Miller, chairman of the Board of
Directors of Denton Chamber of Commerce, and Bob
Woodln, Denton Chamber representative and Denton Main
Street Committee, signed a letter addressed to the court
outlining their support.
Don HUI, commissioner, said in support of Walker’s
posltion.' My opinion Is a certificate of obligation Is the way
I will not support a bond election on this Issue."
and ghouls.
The two day event was held at the old
Johnson Feed Store building on the freeway.
The Chamber thanks John Porter for
furnishing the building.
Chamber elects new Board of Directors
At a Tuesday meeting the Chamber named
a new Board of Directors. The new board will
consist of Dickie Amyx, Christine Bengston,
Patte Fleissner, John Henry, Beverly Howard,
Roy Lemons, Dr. Bernard Mancini and Charlie
Roe.
