As the May 1st Primary draws near, there are a few
personal thoughts I would like to share with you. During the
past two months, I have printed in my announcements facts
about the 18th Judicial District that I thought were
important for you, the voting citizen, to know.
The information I have brought before you is record ; court
record, available to anyone who wants to take the time to
look it up in the Court House.
Unless you had a specific reason to check these records,
you probably would never see or hear about the comparisons
I have made public.. However, these records speak for
themselves.
Improvement, and I do mean a great deal of improve-
ment, is needed in our court. The very fact that this race has
drawn so many candidates must indicate this need.
I ask you to remember that I was the first candidate to
annouce for the office. I am running in this race because I
sincerely think I can do the best job.
Qualified? Personally I believe that there are several
qualified attorneys in Johnson County, who are not in this
race, who Could do a good job. But the question is which
candidate would do the SUPERIOR job.
I honestly believe that I can. My past positions as Asst.
Attorney General of Texas, County Attorney, District
Attorney, and City Attorney, combined with my 17 years as
a trial lawyer here in Johnson County, cannot help but make
me believe in myself. Because of this confidence I am
asking you for your confidence in me. I am asking for the
dearest thing you own: Your Vote.
the recommendation of the
study that a new facility be
constructed on a different
site.
New state and federal
regulations have necessitat-
ed the need for county jail
repairs, Cooke told commis-
sioners, and these rules must
be kept in mind during
planning of the expansion.
For example, he said, no
more than 40 percent of jail
inmates can occupy multiple
cells.
Exercise areas, counseling
rooms and other facilities
must also be included in
expansion plans.
The need for individual
cells is obvious, Cooke said,
Because juveniles can not be
put into the same cell with
an adult offender; nor can a
person charged or convicted

Some call it myth and disregard it as not significant.
Others call it theory and ^wait proof.
Others say they know itX> betrue because they have
somehow obtained a personal insight into the mystery that
still hold a fascinating appeal to millions the world over.
Theologians have debated how and why it occurred.
The “average" person simply accepts or rejects the story
that Christ was crucified, buried, and rose again on the third
day.
Yet it is a Question that keeps coming back in the minds of
people everywhere even in times of intellectual increase and
moral decrease.
Not being theologian, this writer hasn’t the credentials to
argue the point.
It is important, however, to note that after nearly 2,000
years the influence of Jesus still has tremendous impact.
Even today, lives of men and women are changed-not
because of evidence, but of things not seen.
Easter is a sacred time in the lives of Christians, yet one of
happiness and smiles.
May your observance of the season have meaning and
warmth.

William Safire, the national columnist,
pretty well hit the nail on the head when he
devoted a column last week to the
“Nixon-hatred’ that is currently sweeping
the country.
“Nixon-hatred,” he wrote, “that most
profitable of media exploitations, reaches a
crescendo this week with (1) the glorifica-
tion on film of reporters-turned-mindread-
ers Woodward and Bernstein and (2) the
publication of their latest journafiction,
which proposes to be an account of the
fallen President’s last days in the White
House.”
He wants to know, what motivated such
outpouring of venom?
The articles, which appeared in numerous
newspapers last week were a reflection on
the newspapers that carried the “trash”,
but even more so a reflection on the
newspaper readers who evidently relish
reading about the most gross and probably
largely untrue reactions of a man and his
family to what must be one of the most
humiliating experiences a national figure
has ever experienced.

Secretary of State Henry Kissinger
probably summed up the feelings of many
when he said the material had been written
by “people without compassion.”
It has often been said that no foreign
power will need to worry about conquering
America - the American people will destroy
themselves.
Reading many publications one has to
believe that America is indeed doing all it
can to demolish itself.
In this, our Bicentennial year, when much
is being made of our nation’s great heritage
we would do best to recall and glorify those
facets of our nation’s past that made ours
the glorious nation that it is, rather than
revert to exploiting some of the present
that we would do best to forget.

I attended my first School
Board meeting April 5,1976.
I have also talked to
parents in my neighborhood
who are concerned about
new educational programs in
our schools.
Let me assure you, sir, I
am not radical on any
subject. I am a reasonable
30-year-old mother of two
children. Before I take a side
on any issue I want to be
totally informed on all is-
sues. However, I feel as a
, concerned parent, more of us
should take a firm stand on
values and morals that I feel,
are slowly slipping away
from our society.
