Is) there express purpose and worthy direction in this man’s walk?
.—xx—..,.it ______„..Jr -'
Regaraiess\two things accompany him: his shadow and his influ-
ence. Cloudy days and darkness of night may obscure his shadow,
but his influence — good or bad — remains. That means that wher-
ever he goes, someone follows. It is almost sure to be someone
near and dear to him. It could also be someone altogether unknown
to him. Such is the power of influence.
How important, then, for his own sake and for the sake of others
that he be a man of worthy life purpose and that his steps extend
in the right direction.
Purpose and direction
God.”
God calls every man to "walk with him” and to "walk worthily in
the presence of his fellow-man.
A "closer walk with God’ and a more commendable walk among
men is the better assured by regular church attendance.
"The steps of a good man are ordered by
the Lord: and He delighteth in his way.”
Psalm 37:23.

BOOKS^CHILDREN
Four score plus another two score years ago, borrowing a
book meant a long hike for Abraham Lincoln. It also meant
that Lincoln read books without being coaxed or nagged. As
books were the foundation of his education, it may have also
meant his start through a law career to the presidency.
George Washington, The In-
dian Influence by Stan Steiner
(Ages 9-11). This is the early
Washington, more a resource-
ful frontiersman than an aris-
tocrat. His real education was
gleaned in the wilderness, and
it was the experience of being
routed twice by Indians that
taught him how to avoid a
trouncing from numerically su-
perior British forces, how to
catch his enemy unaware, as
at Trenton, and how to survive
off the land in winter, as at
Valley Forge. A good balanced
biography of our first presi-
dent. Illustrated.
Q) Where can I get informa-
tion on the changes that will
affect my 1970 return?
A) A summary of the ma-
jor changes in the law are
listed on the cover of the 1040
income tax packages most tax-
payers will receive in the mail.
Information on how to handle
these changes are explained in
the instructions.
Additional information on
the tax law changes as well as
other aspects of tax law may
be found in Your Federal In-
come Tax. This publication
may be obtained from most
IRS offices for 75<t.

The World of Cryogenics:
the Story of Heatlessness by
Waldo T. Boyd, illustrated
with photographs (Ages 12-
15). Clearly-written, well-or-
ganized survey of the strange,
exciting world of the ^ultra-
cold. Tells how low tempera-
tures (down to minus 459 de-
grees Fahrenheit) are created
for use in surgery, rockets,
metal fabricating, and other
fields. Includes many helpful
diagrams and a glossary.
Galleys and Galleons by Wal-
ter Buehr (Ages 12-15). The
lAjs factual story of how grand old
sailing ships evolved from early
■A~; vessels. Here are the galleys,
Igj - biremes and triremes which
were eventually outmoded by
the lumbering galleons. All are
illustrated in careful detail and
~ color by the author.
Teachers today have many
sophisticated aids, but books
are still the basic tool of edu-
cation. And books are about
the only tools that continue to
educate during leisure time,
thus helping the youngster do
better when back in the class-
room.
If your child is not enthusi-
astic about reading, don’t waste
time with the Lincoln yarn or
other propaganda. Trick him
into reading. You can expend
much less shoe leather than
Abe did in getting him started
on books. Simply go to your
public library yourself and
bring back books on subjects
you know are among his inter-
ests. Plant them where he will
have to pass them frequently,
and perhaps the time will come
when he doesn’t pass them.
Ask for these or other titles
at your local library:
Abraham Lincoln by Patri-
cia Miles Martin (Ages 9-11).
An easily written but feeling
biography of the great mar-
tyred president. Illustrated in
color.
Kings of Motor Speed by
Ross R. Olney (Ages 10 up).
Fast-paced biographies of thir-
teen champions of racing ve-
hicles, with numerous photo-
graphs. Includes drivers of the
Indy 500, competitors for the
land speed record, sports car
champions, stock car drivers,
and motorcyclists. Some of the
champions are Eddie Sachs,
Phil Hill, Mickey Thompson,
and the driver of four types of
race cars, Mario Andretti.
The Strange World of Insects
by George Bush and illustrated
in color (Ages 11-15). A large
survey of the insect world with
a goodly amount of detailed
scientific information in the
appendix. Author probes the
nature of insect intelligence,
camouflage and life cycles.
