HPC LIBRARY GETS NEW BOOKS
A Utility Ball Pen.
tinefy
A good practical pen
for everyone.
Everybody likos
the LINDY.
It writes nice.
Lots of students buy two
or three at a time.
Maybe because it's only 391.
Maybe because there are twelve
brilliant ink colors.
Or maybe they just like to have
two or three or twelve around.
Also nice to have around:

Mrs. William Fleming of Ft
Worth, who with Mr, Fleming
has showered Howard Payne
with multiple money gifts, is
contributing to the college in
still another way.
Because of her action, dlrely
needed new books are filling
the shelves of Walker Memorial
Library. Mrs. Fleming is re-
ceiving lists of highly desired
books from the college's depart-
ment heads. The donor checks
over the books, approves or
cancels each one, and sends the
list to a publisher. The arrange-
ment is indefinite at present.
Not only are the books the
ones departments need badly,
none of them are paltry in
price. It has been reported that
the average price per book
Walker Memorial has already
acquired is $7.50. None are
cheaper than $4. One book in
particular, Granger's "Index to
Poetry," sells for $50.
Mrs. Fleming has been car-
rying on such practices at
other schools and missions for
some time, an informed Howard
Payne source reported. She sup-
ports libraries in schools in
Colorado, New Mexico and
several foreign fields.
A sample of the books al-
ready at HPC revealed ones
dealing with art, religion, edu-
cation, and literature. Eaoh de-
partment is to receive books.
Among the art works requested
and received were, "Basic De-
sign, Principles and Practice,"
by Kenneth F. Bates; "How to
Make Collages" by John Lynch;

Also available to Howard
Payne students is "Goodbye to
a River," a narrative by John
Graves. The cover review says
this report of a three-week
canoe-trip on the Brazos River
in Texas reveals much about
the history of the people who
lived on its bankB.
Of interest should be the
highly-ranked novel by Andre
Schwarz-Bart, "The Last of the
Just." Translated from the
French, the work won the Prix
Goncourt, the top literary award
in that tongue's mother country.
