Initiation, Recreation Center
Discussed At Senate Meeting
Freshman initiation and the
proposed new recreation center
were discussed by the student
senate at its weekly meeting
Tuesday night.
The poll on recreational facil-
ities was completed in chapel
last week and presented to the
senate. According to President
Carroll Duke, student response
to the poll was very good'.
Major facilities suggested by
the students and approved by the
senate committee are ping pong
tables and equipment, pool
tables and equipment, game
tables, shuffle board—t able,
bowling facilities, juke box,
snooker table, TV and TV room,
Coke machines, stereo record
player and snack-bar.
Other suggestions included a
ballroom, badminton, all-purpose
gym floor and facilities, piano,
darts and a record listening
room. Game equipment request-
ed ranged from cards and
dominoes to monoply.
Senator Young suggested that
students would probably be
glad to donate games to the pro-
posed recreation center.
The Senate plans to submit
the proposals to Dr. C. E. Mc-
f" —
Carver, HPC administrative vice
president, and Frank Smith,
business manager.
A tentative play for a student
judiciary was submitted by the
committee studying the advis-
ibility of a student judicial sys-
tem.
The committee on freshman
initiation headed by Grayson
Wetzel submitted a report to the
Senate. It was suggested that
freshman initiation last only six
weeks next year, ending with
the Stephen F. Austin football
game.
Buttonups should be held only
on Monday and Friday after
chapel, according to the com-
mittee.
Senator Watson asked Senator
Wetzel if freshman would still
be considered freshman after the
six-week period. Wetzel assured
him that freshman would still
be considered underclassmen,
but the formal initiation period
would be over.
