lowing the concert, the Alpha
Beta Sigma, the Spanish Club,
Physics Club and Blue Key will
host a Punch Party for stu-
dents and guests.
Students will take their par-
ents on a tour of the campuB
for the rest of the afternoon.
"The Merchant of Venice"
will be presented at 8 p.m. Sat-
urday at Coggin Chapel Theater.
All parents and students whose
families are guests for the
weekend may pick up compli
mentary tickets to the produc-
tion in the Student Center. All
free tickets must be picked up
by May 1 at 5 p.m.
Formal invitations for Par-
ent's Weekend have been mailed
to all parents by a committee
composed of representatives
from BSU, Philoikeans, Phi
Epsilon Mu and Psi Upsilon Chi.
"This weekend will be suc-
cessful and purposeful only to
the degree that-the students par-
ticipate. It's purpose is to give
Howard Payne families the op-
portunity to know more about
the college, to meet other fam-
ilies and to share in some of
the things which are our op-
portunities routinely," said1 Miss
Martha St. Clair, Director of
Student Activities and Promo-
tion, who is coordinating the
weekend program.
Working with Miss St. Clair
to correlate the committee re-
sponsibilities are James Shields,
Director of Religious Activities,
Mrs. A. J. Quinn, Assistant Pro-
fessor of Education, Mrs. Mar-
gery Evans, Associate Professor
of Business and Bob Havins,
Director of Alumni Activities.
"If you have not invited your
parents personally, do so to-
day," said Miss St. Clair.
The college has made arrange-
ments with the Browntowner
Motor Inn for special family
rates for those families attend-
ing Parents Weekend.

Eight senior business students
of Howard! Payne College's
Alpha Beta Sigma Club, have
returned from a spring field
trip to San Antonio, where their
agenda was centered around
the production, distribution and
marketing functions of business.
They were Geneva Crawford,
Denver City; Celia Frazier,
Br own wood; Jeff Turner, Kil-
leen; J. V. Hall, Gaylon Hern-
don, Richard! Gist, Darrell Hay-
nes and Alwyn Clausen, Brown-
wood.
Accompanying the students
was Mrs. Margery Evans, pro-
fessor in the business depart-
ment and sponsor of the club.
The students visited a milk
company and a candy company
to observe assembly line pro-
duction, motion study and arm

and finger dexterity; saw one
.of the oldest iron works in the
southwest, where they toured
the foundry and machine shop
and watched the sand blasting
process, design, pattern making,
molding, casting and machining
of job orders to specification.
In the forge shop, they saw the
heavy duty hammers, furnaces
and bending machines for shap-
ing tools and special items, as
well as observing the pouring
and running of steel.
Also included in the trip was
a tour of historical places in the
city, including the Alamo, La
Villita Village, San Jose Mis-
sion, museums, parks and ca-
thedrals.
This is the tenth year business
majors of Howard Payne have
climaxed their professional
study with a field laboratory
experience
There has been a merger of
the Life Service Band and the
Mission Band of Howard Payne
College under the name and
charter of the Life Service
Band. The combined groups met
as a single organization for the
first time last Monday evening
at the home, of Dr. Robert L.
Dobson, sponsor, for a fellow-
ship time and a business meet-
ing. New officers were elected
for the remainder of the spring
and for next fall. Elected were
Ren Adams, president; Glynda
Byerly,* vice president; Mary
W i g g e r, secretary-treasurer;
Ann Brown, extension director;
and Sharon Johnson, mission di-
rector.

Twenty HPC students attend-
ed the BSU Leadership Training
Conference at Latham Spring
Encampment last week-end. All
Executive Council members and
several Greater Council mem-
bers learned a great deal about
BSU and were supplied with in-
formation to help them do a
better job at their elected po-
sition. Students other than
Executive Council members who
made the trip were Anna New-
port, Joe Ballejo, Joyce Cate,
Sherman Zimmerman, Jane
Maples, and Noel Schinitz. Su-
zanne Welch attended as YWA
representative.

The International Student
Picnic will be held on April 25,
in the afternoon at Lake Brown-
wood. There are some 20 Inter-

The Music Department of
Howard Payne College will pre-
sent Jack Walton of Baytown in
a senior voice recital April 20,
announced George Baker, head
of the department.
The recital will be held at

Tennessee Meets
Dr. A- J. Quinn, head of the
Department of Religious Edu-
cation at Howard Payne Col-
lege, left Sunday for Nashville,
Tenn., where he will attend two
meetings this week.
Beginning Monday, he will at-
tend a meeting called by How-
ard B. Foshee, secretary of the
Church Administration Depart-
ment of the Southern Baptist
Sunday School Board.
Beginning Tuesday, he will
attend a meeting of the teachers
of religious education from col-
leges and universities of the
Southern Baptist Convention.

living around our world. Last
Monday, April 2, this student
group was honored at a lunch-
eon sponsored by the WMU of
the First (Baptist Church of
Brownwood.
Dean Mitchell, freshman from
Crosbyton, will be featured on
the BSU radio program this
Sunday evening. The program
which is entitled "The Baptist
Student Speaks" may be heard
each Sunday evening at 8:30
p.m. Dwayne Martin, Lindia
Coppic, Bill Dunham, and Joe
Ballejo work on the program
each week.
