Washington, Sept. 8.—The national
defense commission said today that
5,500,000 now idle workers were
available for the nation’s defense in-

This number, Sidney Hillman,
commissioner in charge of the labor
division said, has been registered
through offices affiliated with the

vice. The registration is broken down
so that the number of workers avail-
able for any particular trade or skill

The labor inventory, Hillman said
