Just as John, Joan and Cody were ready to go on their way back
to Dickens Sunday, daughter Jo Edwards, daughter Till and
grandson J.W. drove in, so they stayed a little while longer
They brought almost the whole noon meal—all prepared and
it was a great treat. They had brought Jill's picture in her
new "Prom" finery and it is lovely. They bought the material
and copied a $500,00 model. They live in Artesia and had
to leave pretty soon after our noon meal. Was glad they got
off before the wind got so bad.

Friday Sister Dorothy called to ask us if we'd mind stopping
by for her on our way in to Dell City to the "Dump" meeting
that evening at the Community Center. Of course we were
glad to, and when we took her back we went in with her to
see that all was well in the house. Sister Helen will be back
in a few days. She said she wasn't really afraid, but just be-
ing careful. Everyone loves her and Helen.

I talked with Deb Clapp Sunday afternoon and she says they
are all doing fine—Baby Kristin Lynne making the trip in to
El Paso with them to pick up Deb's mother, Mrs. Fritz of Ohio,
this past week. Am so glad she can have her mother with her
for a few weeks~"Doting grandmoms" are a lot of help!
We enjoyed the "atomic waste dump" meeting Friday evening
and feel that the seeming lack of interest—indicated by the
small attendance—is rather startling. It was the first of three
scheduled public Keystone Committee meetings. We heard
Dr. Melvin Straus of El Paso, Chairman of the meeting, and
enjoyed everything he had to say and greatly admired his ability
to keep things moving by limiting each person speaking to 2
minutes. We heard many intelligent questions asked and Mr. Ru-
ben Alvarado, Chief Engineer answered them ably. The open
meeting gave everyone the opportunity to speak at least once, and
I think we got the names of most: Martha Jones, Holly Ziler,
GOOD-YEAR
Quality and Innovation
Mary Lynch, Mike Lynch,
Lynn Gentry, Justin Ormsby,
Anne Farmer, Larry Karr,
Kathy Farmer.
Some of the comments:
Marsh Farmer: a man wasn't
able to sell his farm on ac-
count of the waste dump
Ray McCoy: if the material
is so harmless, why not store
it where it originates? Dick
Love: How much of this
trash could you expect ? Was
answered by Alvarado:
140,000 cubic meters. Frank
Brownfield: How can this be
forced upon people ? Doyle
Ziler: has waste been dum-
ped in Gulf of Mexico^*
Answer: yes, it used to be
put in the ocean but dump-
ing now prohibited. Mike
Hurst: Why bury the mater-
ial.'’ Ans: most effictive
way.
We heard and learned so
much in the 2 hours (little
over) that I wish more people
had been there. But then there
always some people content
to let others do the fighting-
and I mean, everyone should
at least come and hear and
learn what we're up against!
your very life, and, or your
children's and their children's,
may depend on keeping this
danger out of our vicinity.
We're told that 10% of the
people are for it, 90% ag-
ainst. Judging from the num-
ber o± residents who appear
at the meetings, it's just the
other way around. I would like
to thank, especially the young
people who are interested in
speaking up
I know I'm not a good re-
porter, but I can at least try
to get everyone living in this
area to come to the meetings
and express themselves and
hear how much danger we are ii
in.
Jan T. White was present at
the last meeting and as you
know has drilled wells all
over the county. Ha made
some pertinent comments about
the underground water.
Dr, Loyd of El Paso, Justin
Ormsby, Mrs. Juanita Carr
of Ft. Hancock were also am-
ong those present.

Shirley and Keith Richardson
attended a Computer meet-
ing in Lubbock last weekend.
We heard that some of Shi-
rley's folks were down with
the flu. Do hope everyone
is better and taking care not
to have a "back set. "

Also, we're sorry Bra Bob has
been ill with flu and hope he
is much better by now.

Below freezing weather every mcraing during the week except a
40 degree Sunday. Some cloudy days but no moisture—have
had lots of wind. It tried awfully hara to snow Sunday.

Monday, as usual, we went in to Dell City with News. Office
our first stop We missed seeing Debb but Anne Farmer was
helping out. Mr. W. and I ran in to visit with Mr. 8 Mrs.
Franklin. I took the little organ along and played a hymn or
two for them. They were both feeling very well.

We talked with daughter Jean this week and she and Euman
are still busy. Have a weekend of painting classes in T or C
this coming Friday and Saturday. They like to go there as
Colquitt's sister and her teacher companion (our second sis-
ter! ) live there. Sure hope they get to come on down this
way.

Have called and haven't found any of our Crow Flat people ill
as of now. Roger Owen survived his bcut with the flu and the

have been very fortunate and feeling welL

The work going on out at "Pearl's place" has sounded very in-
teresting. We are anxious for Nancy, Kearney and family to
get moved in, so we can go out and see what all they have done
over there. Nora Lea has been on the job, too, helping.

Aunt Opal Lewis came out Friday, so she could attend the
Roping events Saturday. She and little Laurie seem to be stay-
ing well, and she still likes to to come out weekends
***
Mr. Larry Nelson with Schwan's Fine Foods came by our house
Friday for the first time. The folks out here have been telling
us about him, so Ruby directed him to our house and we were
very glad he stopped with us. Especially so, since we were due
to have weekend company and some of his products came in
real handy.

Son John brought his wife Joan and son Cody out Saturday
morning and stayed until about 10:00 A.M. Sunday. Joan al-
ways brings a lot of new ideas and things to work on. She's
quite an artist with her sewing and craft work, and likes to
share—and she shares so liberally—scads of patterns, thread
and kits to make up^ She brought me some dolls she had made
that were exquisite! I won't attempt to do the dolls, but Lord,
just grant me the time—and ability!—to do some cf the ethers.
Cody brought the "makings" and made two delicious pies,
piled high with whipped cream.

Daughter Jane Latimer came out last Wednesday from Carls-
bad late; she had Thursday off and they've been so busy at the
hospital and she was so tired we peisuaded her to stay over
Thursday night. We got her up and breakfasted and sent her
off on her way back to work, abort 4 A.M. Friday morning.
She dreads the 8-day stretch which comes up once a month —
Friday through Friday. Because of so much illness, all the people
working in Medical Records have been unusually busy.

We talked with Lisa Saturday. She and Gary are doing fine,
both working and enjoying their little apartment. I asked her
who did the cooking and she admitted Gary was great at it and
much faster then she is, so he was "chief" chef. They have
been well.

Mr. W. and I went by the School Library Thursday to pick up
Vangie Green (Mrs. Mark) to eat with us at Rosita's, and en-
joyed our meal and her company. She told us of seme of her
earlier life, being brought up in Africa, the daughter of mis-
sionaries. We want them both to come out to see us and tell
us more.
