COLLEGE STATION — Research
funding at Texas A&M University
soared to a record $138.6 million during
the 1985 academic year, an increase of
more than $16 million over the previous
year.
Figures for the fiscal year ended
Aug. 31 were announced by Texas A&M
President Frank E. Vandiver. Last year
the university conducted research
valued at $121.7 million, making it the
leading research institution in Texas and
among the top 20 in the nation.
“We feel strongly about our commit-
ment to research as it applies to and
complements the teaching function,
contributes to our basic knowledge and
helps solve problems of a technological,
scientific, economic or social nature,”
Vandiver said. “We are proud of our
role and its contribution to the vitality of
the state and nation in these areas.”
The Coordinating Board, Texas Col-
lege and University System reported
last year that Texas A&M accounted for
41 percent of all research expenditures

IT’S 1986....and we won-

of_the_PasL,.-.“It is time to
say good-bye to the year
1985 and to step over the
threshold into a new year. In
the forward move, we can take
all the memories of the events
of the past year with us, but
we can also clear away the clut-
ter of hurt feelings, misunder-
standings, and disappointments.
As we say good-bye to this
year, let us also say good-bye
to any thoughts or feelings
that we no longer want to
hold in our storehouse of me-
mories As we move forward
into the new year, let us take
our positive memories, for
they nurture us. They are times
of upliftment, times of letting
God actively work in and
through us to bless us and to
bless others. We can build on
the positiveness of the past.
The blessings we have received
have encouraged us. We can
receive further encouragement

Father Casey called from Selma, Alabama after Christmas to let us
know that Evelyn Noble of Dorchester, Massachusetts, had sudden-
ly passed away on the 23rd of December. Evelyn and husband,
George, are long-time acquaintances of Father Casey’s. They both
had visited Father Casey in Dell City several times, making many
