Myth: Beef's nutritional
makeup is no better or
worse than that of other
meats.
Fact: Beef actually con-
tains substantially larger
amounts of certain vital
nutrients. Beef contains
nine times as much
Vitamin B-12 ounce for
ounce as chicken, about
two and a half times as
much iron and four times
as much zinc. (Iron and
zinc are the two most com-
mon nutritional deficien-
cies in America today.)
Beef is what nutritionists
call a ''nutrient-dense”
food. It supplies a large
share of essential
nutrients and a relatively
small share of calories. For
example, a three ounce
serving of lean beef sup-
plies only eight percent of
an adult's daily calorie re-
quirements — but 45 per-
cent of the daily protein re-
quirements.

Although clear and still our early mornings have continued
rather cool for this time of the year. Very little indications of ®
rain, which we so sorely need, Several farmers are watering
their fields of alfalfa. Our mocking-bird has been serenading K
us every morning early - Saturday morning I went out to enjoy W
him as he flitted from tree to tree - and he didn’t mind a bit! ■

I hope everyone's Mother heard from her children Sunday. We J
did and it's so dear of them to remember us on that special m
day. Daughter Jo came o/er for the day from Artesia and brought »
2 lovely pot plants - full of blooms. One from her and one from |
daughter Jill - who never forgets. Then Lisa and Gary called.
Our noon menu didn't have much variety, but we all enjoyed it.
Jo brought a huge bowl of brown beans and mexican corn - bread
which was delicious.
****
Jo brought two albums of pictures of Jill's wedding. She and
Scott Yates were married Mar. 13th. They went right back to
school in Socorro - he will get his degree this year b ut she has
another year. Dana Latimer - Jane's dauglter - will be grad-
uating from St. Edwards University May 17tb. Said she was a
long time doing it - working inbetween times - but we're - and
her husband Art, are all very proud of her. Her mother, Jane
is at the present time, here on the farm with us. Jill and Scott
are spending this coming week on Padre Island.
****
Nora Lea and Andy went up to Cloudcroft this past week-end
for the "OLD TIMER'S MEETING" - Her mother, Eva Lewis, was
one of the honorees. All of Nora Lea's family (except Clark who
was on tire sick list) was there - she estimated a crowd of about
50 family member^ (Lewis Family) and about 200 all together.

Last Monday we - Mr. W. and I - made oar regular run into
Dell City. We went to the librarv and over to Aurora's to see the
young fellow - little Roman - he's growing so fast and is a sweet
tempered little baby when he gives that beguiling smile, you
want to ran away with him.
****
Father Casey brought Fr. Waiwood out to see us Sunday after-
noon. We enjoyed having them. He had driven down to El Paso
from Selma, Ala.
****
Nora Lea sent me a memento of Granny Emma's - She never
would give anything away - said she'd just let the kids fight over
her things after she was gone. She carried a cute little box that
held the various kinds of pills she was taking, so Nora Lea sent
it to me. - for my pills! I shall cherish it.
****
The telephone rang rather early Sunday morning and when I
answered, Fabian Gomez said "HappyMother's Day!"He's such
a little gentleman - 13 years old. I love him!
****
Mr. W, and I went in to El Paso on the Senior Citizens Bus with
Aurora driving - Chela Jiminez and I taking turns holding little
Roman until he went to sleep. We had lunch in the Hotel Dieu
Lunch Room. W3 had a nice visit with Opal Madison - mother
of Thelma Akers - and her daughter, Mrs. Mary Martin from
Anthony, Tx. - N. M. Her family was one of the real pioneers
(the Tom Jones) of Crow Flat.
****
_ Our neighbors have been very helpful is getting Jane situated
in the "little house" - Junior and Guillermo both came and
moved a refrigerator from the adobe garage for her. She attend-
ed Sunday School Sunday at Dell City Baptist Church.
****
Jean has just called to know hew we are and what we did on
Mother's Day. Euman's family were with them - We hope they
can come out soon.
****
I think we previously reported that Mattie Speights cousin, the
present Co. Judge of Dickens County - was re-elected - had 2
opponents.
****
Well Mr. W. is ready to go to Dell City and if I ebn't want to
get left - I’d better get up and get ready.
