tions of your disrespect for the
service and for your religion is to
walk in and out of the Music Hall,
to congregate in the lobby; or,
worst of all, to stand around in the
street. If you leave the Music Hall,
please go directly home; do not
show your contempt for your re-
ligion by congregating outside the
Synagogue to discuss business or
to engage in small talk, while your
fellow Jews are worshipping in-
side, praying for you and for all
mankind.
Raise to
pray’r,
Sin unmake for Thy sake and declare,
‘Forgiven!’
Tears, regret, witness set in sin’s place;
Uplift trust from the dust to Thy face—
‘Forgiven!’
Voice that sighs, tear-filled eyes, do not
spurn,
Weigh and pause, plead my cause, and
return
‘Forgiven!’
The Ushers’ Committee, headed by
Harry Paine and Sam Rosenberg, is ask-
ing every loyal member of Beth Yesh-
urun to please cooperate with them this
year by having their membership cards
ready when they come to the High Holi-
day Services, whether it be at the Mu-
sic Hall or the Orthodox Synagogue, at
Chartres and Clay.
They are making this request for the
sake of the comfort and convenience of
our members, because it helps them to
maintain the kind of decorum that
would be in keeping with the sanctity
of the High Holiday Season.
We are anxious to make sure that
every member of Beth Yeshurun has a
seat during the Holidays on the main
floor of the Music Hall, and we are,
therefore, being very careful to require
a membership card for admission, so
that no outsiders will take the seats
which rightfully belong to the members
of our Congregation. When, therefore,
you are asked to show your membership
card at the door, please remember that
it is done only for the purpose of as-
suring you and your family the oppor-
tunity to worship during the High Holi-
day s in comfort and in peace.
The main floor of the Music Hall will
be reserved this year only for mem-
bers. Non-members, and children who
are not accompanied by their parents,
will be asked to go upstairs. However, a
Special Children’s Service has been ar-
ranged for, which will be held on the
first and second days of Rosh Hashanah
in the Conference Room on the Mez-
annine floor of the Music Hall.
A nursery for children under six has
also been arranged for, in Room A of
the Music Hall on the second floor.
Please take advantage of these facili-
ties Which have been secured for your
special comfort and convenience.
If you cooperate with us, we assure
you the kind of High Holiday Services
you will

10. Above all remember, that
you are not alone at our services.
Your conduct may either help or
destroy the dignity, the decorum
and the morale of our services. Our
sages say “All Jews are responsible
one for another.” To nothing does
that apply more forcibly than to
the conduct of a service of worship.
In order to make it beautiful, dig-
nified, meaningful and inspiring,
we need the cooperation of every-
one of our worshippers. Your rev-
erence, your respect for your faith
and for your neighbor, will help
to make the High Holy Day Ser-
vices of Beth Yeshurun something
of which we can all be proud.

8. There will be no admission dur
ing the Rabbi’s sermon, so that the
worshippers in the Music Hall may
not be disturbed by late comers.
Please make every effort to come
on time, so that you may, your-
self, enjoy the sermon.

9. The Reading of the Torah is
the most sacred and significant
part of the service on the High Ho-
ly Days, as it is at every Sabbath
morning service. It is the reading
of the word of God, and the least
we can do is to give it our careful
and reverent attention. In your
prayer books you will find the read
ings assigned for the Holy Days;
the Rabbi will explain their con-
tents and significance, and you
will find the English translation of
all these readings beside the He-
brew.

5. If you bring your children
with you, please keep them beside
you and teach them, both by ex-
ample and by precept, to behave
themselves in the house of God.
For your comfort and conven-
ience as well as for the inspiration
of the children, we have arranged
Children’s Services for both Rosh
Hashanah and Yom Kippur for
children between the ages of 6 and
13. These will take place in the
Conference Room on the Mezzan-
ine floor of the Music Hall.
We have also provided a nursery
for children under the age of 6
which will be located in Room A on
the second floor of the Music Hall.
If you wish your children to enjoy
these activities, take them there
directly upon arrival, so that they
may enjoy a service fitted for their
needs, or if they are too young for
that, so that they might play under
supervision, and not disturb your
worship or the dignity of the ser-
vice.
