The MESSAGE
THANK YOU
HATS OFF
TO THE SHAINOCKS
daism, and today we pay them
tribute.
Jack Shainock, particularly,
has been looked upon as the
head of the family, and he
has served on the Board very
recently, and has done a lion’s
share in the work of prepar-
ation for our original Build-
ing Fund Campaign, as well
as for the supplementary cam-
paign in connection with our
Dedication Dinner. It has been
our privilege to go with him,
and to witness his enhusiasm
and loyalty to our Congrega-
tion, as evidenced by his de-
termination to gather the
funds that would make it pos-
sible for us to have the kind
of Educational Building and
the kind of Synagogue that
traditional Judaism deserves.
A word should also be said
about the distaff side of the
family. That is headed by Mrs.
Louis Shainock, the present
matriarch of the family, who
never misses a Sabbath Eve
Service, and who usually has,
around her, the members of
her family. Among the most
regular attendants, at our
services, are Mr. and Mrs. Abe
Chaskin, and Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Shainock. Their reg-
ular and loyal attendance is an
inspiration to the rest of us,
and it is fully in line with the
tradition of the family.
We also wish to mention the
fourth generation of the Shai-
nock family who are conspi-
cuous by their attendance and
by their participation in our
activities. Among them are
the Chaskin children, Meyer,
Sam and Seline; Lois Paula
Shainock, and Victor Shain-
ock, who is a member of our
Confirmation Class this year,
and his sister Sandra.
We congratulate the Shai-
nock family upon their loyal-
ty and devotion to the faith of
our fathers; and we wish them
all, continued health, happi-
ness and prosperity, so that
we may have more frequent
occasion to enjoy their sup-
port and their devotion to
Beth Yeshurun and the cause
of Judaism.
We are grateful to the following for
their contributions to Beth Yeshurun:

This week, we pay justifi-
able and enthusiastic tribute
to one of our oldest and most
honored families at Beth Yes-
hurun—the Shainocks.
Their history, at Beth Yesh-
urun, begins with one of the
most revered patriarchs of
our Congregation, Meyer Men-
dlovitz, who was a Trustee of
our Congregation from 1916 to
1930, and then was promoted
to the position of Gabbai (one
in charge of our religious ser-
vices). His picture may be
found in the “Golden Book”
of our Jubilee, and it presents
to us a fine gentleman of the
old school, with a fine, flow-
ing beard and a wise and
proud face. He is the head of
the Shainock family, and the
pioneer in their loyalty and
devotion to Beth Yeshurun.
His son-in-law was Louis
Shainock, who was, in his
turn, a Trustee of our Congre-
gation for 10 years, from 1931
to 1941. One of the unusual
phases of the history of this
family is that, at the same
time that Louis Shainock be-
came a Trustee at Beth Yesh-
urun, his son, Jack, was also
elected to the Board. Thus
father and son, together, ser-
ved the cause of Judaism
through our Congregation.
Seven years later, another
of the Shainock family was
elected to the Board. He was
Samuel Shainock, who is, to
this day, one of the most loy-
al and ardent members of our
Congregation, and o f the
Houston Zionist District.
That does not, however, ex-
haust the honor roll of the
Shainock family. Morris and
Ephraim Shainock are also
members of Beth Yeshurun,
as well as Mr. and Mrs. Abe
Chaskin. Mrs. Chaskin is also
of the distinguished clan. All
these families have, through
the years, remained loyal to
the cause of traditional Ju-
