DR. LOUIS FINKELSTEIN TO
HONOR BEN GURION IN
ISRAEL, MAY 25
An event of historic significance has
just been announced by the Jewish
Theological Seminary of America.
From May 15th to June 1st, the Sem-
inary will sponsor a Pilgrimage to
Israel. The climax of this Pilgrimage
will be a Seminary Convocation on May
25th in Jerusalem at which Doctor
Louis Finkelstein will confer the hon-
orary degree of Doctor of Hebrew Lit-
erature on Prime Minister David Ben-
Gurion. The Seminary has extended an
invitation to members of all our con-
gregations to participate in this mo-
mentous occasion.
For many years all of us have sought
to strengthen the spiritual ties between
the Jewries of Israel and America.
Since the establishment of the State of
Israel, the need and desire for methods
of better cooperation and better under-
standing between these two communi-
ties has become vastly more important.
Much has already been accomplished
by our rabbis, our lay leaders and our
congregations; through the various
Zionist organizations to which we be-
long, as well as through the United
Jewish Appeal, the Israeli Bond Drive
and similar organizations in an effort
to make Israel successful materially.
But the time has now come when we
must embark upon a new level of re-
lationship between the peoples of the
two countries.
The Seminary Pilgrimage will un-
doubtedly be an important step towards
this purpose. Because of the nature of
this Pilgrimage, it is hoped that those
of us who have for many years been
planning to go to Israel will utilize this
extraordinary opportunity to represent
the Conservative movement in this
great mission.
Members of our congregation who
are interested in joining this Pilgrim-
age, in attending the Convocation, the
special guided tours and other events
connected with it, should contact Rabbi
Malev as soon as possible so that the
necessary arrangements can be made.
SPECIAL PHILCO LUNCHEON
FOR SISTERHOOD, MAY 12
A group of Sisterhood members are
sponsoring a “give or earn” luncheon
through the cooperation of the Philco
Corporation and Philco dealers. This
party will take place on Monday, May
12, at 11:45 a.m. at the Philco Play-
house, 2644 South Shepherd.
Tickets sell for $1.00 and the party
consists of the following:
1. Luncheon
2. Demonstration by Philco Home Eco-
nomists
3. Humorous Quiz Program in which
everyone participates and winners
receive prizes such as nylon hose,
linen sets, groceries, etc.
4. Orchids or some other flower for
each lady.
5. Place favors
Tom Lane is master of ceremonies
and keeps the party moving at a fast
pace. The program is similar to “Ladies
Be Seated” or “Queen For A Day.” The
entire proceeds are retained by the
Sisterhood. Philco and the advertisers
stand full expense of the party.
Anyone who sells ten tickets will
have made her “give or earn” for the
year. If you wish to attend or sell ten
tickets, please contact Mrs. Philip Kal-
man, KE-3470 or Mrs. Sam Zeisman,
JA-8362.
