Dear Rabbi:
I want to express
personal thanks and
the Servetus Club of the First Unitarian
Church for enabling us to hear the high-
ly informative talk by Professor Zeitlin.
Rabbi, few of our speakers leave the
after-effect that Professor Zeitlin did—
no matter whether people agreed or dis-
agreed with him, they are still talking
about him.
Although I was unable to attend the
lecture on the Dead Sea Scrolls, my
roommates brought back a full report—
and much food for contemplation.
Sincerely,
Laurel Gemmell,
Secretary, Servetus Club
First Unitarian Church
in—only WHEN it will come in.
May we please have your lump sum
or first instalment check by return mail?

bership have paid their ’58 dues. Posing
quite a problem for the finance com-
mittee responsible for paying the staff,
the light company, etc.
There is a very simple solution. Pay
dues on the installment plan, starting
immediately. Please call the Executive
Director, JA 8-0531, to discuss a plan.
An indication of your intent with your
first installment check would greatly
help the financial picture.
No mortgagee ever lost money on a
Synagogue note and our officials are
not worried that the money will come
Dear Rabbi:
Allow me to express the gratitude of
our students, staff and faculty for your
participation in our Religious Emphasis
Week. We feel that the three-day ses-
sion was as successful as any we have
had, and this success is of course due
in large part to the contribution of our
speakers. It is our opinion that much
was done to stimulate the students to
lead more spiritual lives.
We thank you for your wonderful
assistance and trust that in the future
we may again have the opportunity to
see and hear you. It was a real pleasure
to have you with us on our campus dur-
ing Religious Emphasis Week.
With kindest personal regards, I
Sincerely yours,
Oliver S. Willham

O Sanctuary—where so oft I prayed,
O Refuge, Comfort, birthplace of my
dreams,
Whose walls reechoed solemn
made,
Whose lighted windows seemed like
radiant beams,
Could it be true that I shall not behold
Against the classic beauty of thy form,
Nor walk thy aisles, nor from thy Ark
enfold
The Holy Scroll, nor feel thy welcome
warm?
Though though be dust, in dreams I’ll
mount thy stairs,
And in my fondest thoughts shall live
thy grace;
My heart shall bear thy image, and my
prayers
Shall always emanate as from thy place.
For all my soul and thou shall be as one,
O Sanctuary—ne’er to be undone.
Irwin Citron.
Dear Rabbi:
May I express my sincere thanks to
you for conducting the Seminar at our
recent Silverman A.Z.A. Model Conven-
tion.
From the many glowing reports and
comments which followed, I gather
much lively discussion and a great deal
of inspiration was derived, thanks to
your able leadership.
My sincere thanks,
Johnny Hyman
Model Convention Chairman
Dear Rabbi:
On behalf of the members of Rose
Caplovitz Chapter, B’nai B’rith Women,
I want to thank you for conducting our
Passover Workshop on March 27.
Your talk was most interesting, and
all of us there learned something new.
We especially appreciate your kind-
ness in taking time out from your busy
schedule that evening for us, and hope
we didn’t make you late for your next
meeting.
Sincerely,
(Mrs.) Rose G. Rice
Corresponding Secretary

Why I Am A Jew
I am a Jew because born of Israel
and having lost it, I felt it revive me
and more alive than I am myself.
I am a Jew because born of Israel,
and having found it again, I would have
it live after me even more alive than it
is within me.
I am a Jew because the faith of Israel
demands no abdication of my mind.
I am a Jew because the faith of Israel
asks every possible sacrifice of my soul.
I am a Jew because in
when the cry of despair is
Jew hopes.
I am a Jew because in
where there are tears and suffering the
Jew weeps.
I am a Jew because the message of
Israel is the most ancient and the most
modern.
I am a Jew because Israel’s promise
is a universal promise.
I am a Jew because for Israel the
world is not finished; men will complete
it.
I am a Jew because for Israel man
not yet created; men are creating him.
Edmund Fleg.
Dear Rabbi Malev:
I hear on all sides how wonderful
your talk was yesterday in chapel. Be-
lieve me, it was a great disappointment
that I could not be there, not only to
hear it but to introduce you. Unfor-
tunately, they have me hog tied.
We are so proud of Judy’s perform-
ance. It is wonderful to share in her
success.
I hope that next year nothing will
keep me from hearing your talk. It is
always one of the high points of the
school year.
Best personal regards to you.
Cordially,
Alan Lake Chidsey
