Moshe Koi, Minister of Tourism in Israel, is particular-

servative rabbis by the Israeli government, according to
Beth Yeshurun’s Executive Director, Ben Katz. Ben and
Hortense Katz learned this on their recent trip to Israel to
attend the World Council of Synagogues Convention. The
Katz’s along with others attending the convention met with
dignitaries such as Itzhak Rabin and Shimon Peretz. Mr.
Katz also pointed out that the convention was told that
now there are 14 Conservative synagogues throughout

On occasion a patron raises a question concerning
noise in the Library. It’s true - we are a noisy “library”-
because we are not a library in the traditional sense of the
word - we are a learning resource center. No longer are
we only a repository for books, traditionally a hallowed
area where you whisperingly exchange one book for anoth-
er. We are, rather, a part of a learning situation. On a
normal day children may surround the desk, seeking help
or checking out audio-visual equipment; others are using
the carrels. One group may be working on an historical
project, copying flags from the encyclopedia at the center
tables. All the while, a steady stream of students are re-
turning and checking out books. We may have 30 to 40
children in the center at one time. This means noise - but
it’s working noise, learning noise. Ask our children about
the importance of the library in their school. Better yet,
come and visit - but be prepared for noise.
