FOR THE MAY 16th BIKATHON
Cantors’ Concert
The Men’s Club also proudly announces its main Spring
event: the Cantors’ Concert, Sunday, May 30, 1976, at 8:00
p.m. This year’s program will feature our own Cantor Wagner,
and Cantors Dean and Groper of Houston and Sergei of Austin
singing a Bicentennial Program of songs focusing upon the
immigration to America and the impact of Jewish composers
upon American music. Ticket sales have already been brisk
as several persons with advance knowledge of this event recall
the excellence of prior Cantors’ Concerts and seek to assure
themselves of a seat for what is certain to be a very entertain-
ing evening. Tickets are $5.00 in advance and can be pur-
chased by contacting the Beth Yeshurun Main Office for
information, or Men’s Club officers Dr. Jonathan Hyman
(771-1120), Aaron Levy (771-9443), Lonnie Schooler (627-
7366), Jeff Mayper (729-4743) or Seth Harwood (729-1326)
for tickets. The $5.00 advance price will be maintained so
long as tickets last. Due to our need to plan well in advance,
tickets sold at the door will have to be offered at a price sub-
stantially above $5.00, so please hurry and get your
tickets now.
On Sunday, May 16th, a flock of Beth Yeshurun students
and parents will embark on a 16 mile bicycle ride to raise
funds to sponsor Bar Mitzvahs for Israeli boys whose fathers
were killed during “The Six Day War” or “The Yom Kippur
War.”
Please sponsor a bike rider by completing the following
blank and returning it to Rabbi Segal, c/o the synagogue.
(Specify the name of the bicycle rider if you so desire. Even
Rabbi Segal will be one of the bike riders.)
If you decide to sponsor the rider for 20 cents a mile and
the rider only does 10 miles then you will be asked to donate
$2.00 toward this charity. (Naturally if you decide to sponsor
the rider for a higher sum, your donation will be higher.) The
maximum distance will be 16 miles.
The following 34 have already “signed up” to participate
in the Bikathon. You may specify any one of these 34 (or any-
one else who is going) as the one (or ones) you want to sponsor.

MEN S CLUB NEWS ... by Lonnie Schooler
The Men’s Club gratefully acknowledges the support of
Rabbis Segal and Weinberg concerning the new “Sabbath
Eve Riders Service.” Each week Men’s Club members have
been driving carpools to the synagogue for Sabbath Eve ser-
vices for all synagogue members who are interested in attend-
ing Shabbat services but are unable to transport themselves.
If you or friends you know are interested in taking advantage
of this service, please contact the synagogue main office,
666-1881, by noon on Friday of the week you wish to attend
informing them of your desire to be picked up that evening.
To assure yourself of a ride, you must contact the synagogue
by Friday noon.
Because of the response to this new program, the Men’s
Club finds itself in need of more volunteers to assist with pro-
viding transportation to and from Friday night services.
Several members have already volunteered to assist so that
those of you-wishing to volunteer would be expected to partici-
pate on a “once-a-month” basis. The Men’s Club prides itself
on providing time, resources and manpower for synagogue
projects but we need help now because of the enthusiastic
response of those members of our congregation who wish to
participate in our Shabbat program. Please contact the syna-
gogue main office by Thursday noon of the week you are avail-
able to drive and give your address and home/business phone
where you can be reached by Men’s Club officers coordinat-
ing the program. This is one volunteer program in which each
volunteer will realize immediately, upon having served for
the first time, that his participation is worthwhile and appre-
ciated. Put simply, someone else will feel good and that will
make you feel good, too.
