MAZZOLA
► Continued from page one.
Besides having stiff compe-
tition from the other K-9 teams,
the first day's competition had
taken place during the lightning
and thunder of an approaching
thunderstorm, which is often
confusing to the dogs. But Seko
consistently performed very
well with his teammates. Maz-
zola is rightly very proud of
him.
As the top winner for Region
20, the Carthage team will have
their expenses paid by the re-
gion for the na onal competition
in St. Paul, Minn., which will
take place in the fall.
Between now and then, the
trio will put in many more hours
of training and preparation.
Mazzola is grateful that Chief
Baushke is good about giving
him time to train Seko. And al-
though the training has paid off
in the winning of the prestigious
awards, the real value of Seko's

qualify for the state baseball
tournament.
Head coach for the Jackets is
Jim Weaver, with his assistant
coaches being Chris Stewart and
Steve Mathews.
Weaver was an assistant
baseball coach for Carthage in
1990 when the team won the
state championship.
Carthage won their game
Thursday night, and the 4-A
championship game will be
played at 7 p.m. Friday night at
Disch-Falk Field, weather
permitting. This game is
scheduled after The Panola
Watchman's press time.
Elysian Fields also won their
game on Thursday. The Yellow
Jackets were ahead 3 to 1 in the
2-A championship game against
Weimer at press time on Friday.
Unfortunately, Beckville lost
their semi-final game on
Thursday.
