order to insure the financial,
physical, and emotional ability
of the family to adopt a child,
the process of the Buckner
Adoption Agency in Dallas was
put in forward motion.
When a healthy baby girl was
found for possible adoption, the
Yarbroughs were contacted and
supplied information in the
forms of a video of the baby and
health records.
The decision was made to
investigate adopting Daria by
the Yarbroughs. Plans were
made for the first of two trips to
Russia, the first to see little

The second trip was made after
David and Susie made the final
decision to adopt Daria. Each
journey involved 13-hours on a
plane and 15-hours on a train.
This whole process took
about one year, but on October

White was right The first
year the numbers doubled from
the standard way of collecting
door to door.
By involving the schools,
students are encouraged to ask
family and friends for nonper-
ishable food to help their class.
The teachers in turn used this
opportunity as a learning tool in
Math and to teach the children
lessons in human compassion.
Local businesses are also in-
volved and have donated to the
cause by providing funds for
class parties on the different
campuses.
This year's winners are Miss
Bledsoe's second graders col-
lecting 58 cans of food while
Carla Cheshire's third grade had
275, with Libby campus total of
1,191 items donated. Both
classes had a coke and popcorn
party sponsored by Brookshire
Brothers.
Baker Koonce School col-
lected a total of 2,464 cans of
food with Rose Helen Reid's
fourth graders bringing in 145
cans, Brenda Giles' fifth graders

The fourth annual "Make a
Difference Day” food drive,
sponsored by the Boy Scouts
and Cub Scouts of Carthage,
closed on October 26 with a
grand total of 13,471 items of
food being donated to the
Samaritan House in Carthage.
2001 has proven to be the
year of generosity in our county.
With so many of the Panola
County residents giving from
their hearts to the September 11
terrorists attack in New York
City and Washington, D.C., they
have continued to help fellow
citizens here, in their own back-
yard.
This is the fourteenth year
that Boy and Cub Scouts of
Carthage have collected and do-
nated food to the Samaritan
House, and the fourth year of
the "Make a Difference Day"
campaign.
Four years ago, Scoutmaster
Robert White, of Troop 268,
saw a different way of collecting
food for the Samaritan House,
with hopes it would generate
more food.
The "Make a Difference
Day" program is sponsored na-
tionally by USA Weekend and
Points of Light Foundation.
White knew that residents out-
side the Carthage city limits
were being missed and this
could be a way to include them
in the drive.
Our hearts weie so wanned
by the attendance you showed •
us at the death of our loved one.
The food, cards, prayers and
words of comfort will never be
forgotten. The flowers were
beautiful. Hawthorn Funeral
Home was so attenative. Bro.
Allen Tilley's words were so
comforting.
God bless all of you,
