Carthage freshmen had three
close games in 2001, none
closer than a 20-20 tie with Kil-
gore that settled the 16-AAA A
co-championship.
The Bulldogs also beat Texas
High, 22-20, and Mt. Pleasant,
22-21, to finish the campaign
unbeaten with a 9-0-1 record.
Hallsville made things inter-
esting in the season finale, but
saw too of much of Darron
Holland, to master an upset.
Holland ran for 160 in 24 carries
and scored twice in a 24-19 de-
cision.
It gave the quick little tail-
back 1,647 yards for the season,
a 9.8 average and 18 touch-
downs.
Karldarias Beechum had a
better average (10.0) and more
TDs (20) as he gained 1,144
yards on 114 totes. This tandem
was the hottest in the circuit, un-
stoppable all season to give
Carthage an average of 337
yards total offense per game,
299 of that running.
The Bulldogs averaged a
whopping 8.2 yards per run as a
team (seven players included)

The Beckville Ladycat
Volleyball team came up just
short of a win in the Region 3
Finals Saturday night in
Nacogdoches.
The Bremond Tigers will
now advance to the final Austin
Tournament this weekend after
defeating Beckville, IS-13, 15-
8.
The ladies did earn spots on
the All-District Volleyball
Team.
Emily Brown received Most
Valuable Player. Keri Cameron
was named Co-Defensive
Player. Paige Edens received
Newcomer of the Year.
First team members named
from Beckville were: Dena
Courtney and Amber Gray.
Second Team members were:
Melanie Brightwell and Stacy
Blanton.
Gary players named were:
Lindsey Humber and Jessica
States.
The Ladycats worked hard all
season, but it never came to-
gether for them Saturday after-
noon.
Dena Courtney contributed
six of six serves, 9 assists, one
kill and a dig. Keri Cameron
added two of two serves, one
ace, and three digs.
Melanie Brightwell went
three for three serves and had
one dig. Emily Brown added
three of three serves and six
kills.
Stacy Blanton had five of six
serves, one ace, and a dig.
Amber Gray had two blocks.
Paige Edens contributed six of
six serves, seven kills, one dig
and a block. Zanobia

one in 10 plays.
Derek Holson had a comple-
tion percentage of .678 with 21
completions in 34 chances. He
ran for two TDs and passed for
four.
Jeremy Hogan and Jeremy
Chase were exceptional re-
ceivers and could have put up
big numbers had the Dogs been
inclined, or forced to throw.
They weren't even required to
play very good defense, but that
could be because they played so
many during the season. There
were 32 with a tackle, or more,
paced by Chase with 41 and
Beechum with 28. Dusty Bagley
came around late and had solid
numbers, as did Mitchell Sim-
mons, Jeff Moore and Ikedrian
Coleman.
Offensive line play by
Kendrick Wilson, Coleman,
Justin Gilstrap, Patrick Walker,
Alan Scripsick, Hogan and An-
thony Vaughn was outstanding
throughout the campaign, a
major reason the Dogs were un-
defeated.
It was an outstanding year,
and tallied 41 touchdowns, bet- reflected in every instance by
ter than four per game.
Beechum .scored 134 points,
Holland 133.
It was exciting, firn football
