to settle for a team-high 24.
Ironically he had the last shot at
halftime and missed, but was
otherwise very much a sharp-
shooter with eight goals, two
from three-point range.
Terrance Thomas, a sopho-
wing, had 19, Diego
added 17 and Luke
Mackay put in 11, giving Lon
Morris great balance, too.
"It was a big win," Panola
coach Scott Monarch admitted.

Thomas gave a sterling effort
before he departed, putting in 16
goals and going five for five at
the foul line. He had 16 re-
bounds.
Allison made just six points,
but was somewhat instrumental
in helping the Ponies on the
boards after Thomas' departure.
The players who came up re-
ally big, however, were Tony
Gipson, Tremaine Hancock and
Tom Boyd.
They presented die Ponies
with so much scoring balance
that Lon Morris couldn't cover
everything.
Gipson had 20 points, in-
cluding the winning goal with
five seconds remaining when he
drove the lane and put the ball in
among a sea of defensive arms.
After a time out, Lon Morris
worked die ball in bounds on the
right sideline and Curtis drib-
bled beyond mid-court to let one
fly just inside the line as the
horn went off.
Had it gone, it would have
counted. It didn't and Curtis had

Lee handed Loo Morris its
first loss of the season Saturday
night in the rugged Region XIV
chase, skewering die polls that
had the Bearcats ranked No. 2.
And then Monday night
Panola jolted the Bearcats, 100-
98, to really rain on their parade.
That loss skewered the con-
ference chase, sending San Jac-
into (23-1, 15-1 Region XIV)
into the lead by itself for the
first time this season.
The Bearcats (22-2, 14-2)
had a chance at the end to win,
but a shot at the buzzer by Ter-
rance Thomas was a little off
line to the right It caught iron
and stopped everybody in the
house from breathing for just a

JACKSONVILLE - The
hosting I^ady Jaguars had pos-
session of the ball for the last
0:08.3 of the game and couldn’t
get a shot off as Panola Fillies
D-upped at crunch time to take a
66-65 victory here Saturday
night, their first of the season.
First Jacksonville had to
chase the ball back toward mid-
court and was given the ball out
of bounds in a mad scramble for
possession.
Then with four seconds re-
maining, the Lady Jags worked
for the game's final shot, and
never got it off.
The victory snapped a sea-
son-long. 23-game losing streak,
bringing laughter and a few
tears of joy from Darrell Robert-
son's weary charges.
it was tne interim coacns

resigned before completing her
second season at the helm. In-
cluding 21 losses this season she
