Mr. and Mrs. John A. Coleman
and Dcena are proud to announce
the arrival of a new family member: to supplement their income during
the off season. It was when they
noticed a vacant building next to the
highschool that they knew what they
wanted to do. They leased the
building and have opened up the
Gunny Shack restaurant there.
They decorated the interior Jjn a
country western theme, and put
together a menu that features fried
chicken, sirloin burgers, fried okra,
pie. corn on the cob and yeast roll$.
among other items. Their meat
comes from Muller's Meats, and
bread and pies from Jeannette’s
Bakery . The produce is fresh, and
this summer all their vegetables will
come from the gardens of Llano
residents.
James does 1 he cooking at the
restaurant. "Just like 1 do at home."
he says.
. The Gunny Shack, on Highway 29.
is open Monday through Saturday
from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on
Sundays from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
A unique feature is that they will
deliver to offices and homes in the
Llano area.
Another plus is the family-style
meals they serve after 3 p.m.
Families and groups are invited to
come sit at a large table and be
waited on home-style.
Orders arc available at the drive-in
window, also. To order food to go.

The Broomes' two children. Ger-
ald. 10. and Julie, seven, attend
Llano schools, and the couple hopes
to have a long and profitable career
here in Llano with both the Gunny-
Shack and the Hill Country Hunters'
Association.

Debbie and James Broome, who
have recently operied The Gunny
Shack., a new restaurant in Llano,
have an interesting story to tell about
how they happened to come to Llano
and, why they got into the food
business here.
James, who was a mechanical
engineer in Houston, and Debbie,
who managed a veterinarian clinic in
Houston, traveled fyom Cypress.'
near Houston, in their motor home to
the Hill Country last summer,
hunting a deer lease They parked in
rhe city park's area for travel
trailers, and while staying, there,
attended a benefit barbecue for
Llano Memorial Hospital. The
friendly reception they encountered
there w<s what helped them make up
their minds to make the Hill Country
their home.

Also in attendance were numerous
relatives and friends from across the
country. ’
Since they had come to this area
looking for a deer lease and for
various reasons were not able to
make contact with the local chamber
of commerce for hunting lease
information, they decided a hunting
guide service would be a good
business to establish here.
They started Hill Country Hunt-
ers' Association from their home
while still in the Houston area, and
were soon receiving as many as 40
calls a day from the Houston area, in
addition to numerous calls on the
answering service they had set up
here.
The Broomes moved to Llano a
week before hunting season, and
leased a building on Ford Street to
provide a place where hunters and
landowners could meet to have
coffee and get acquainted. At this
"clearing house" the couple met
hunters and took them to leases,
showed them over the property and
even fed the deer for some of them.
They are currently handling leases
for 10'landowners in Llano County,
and are looking forward to next
hunting season.
But they found they needed a way
