B.W. Millhollan was the first sheriff of
Hopkins Countrwhen ft was created baelt
in the horse and buggy days in IM. Since
that time there have been more than 30
other men who have shared the respon-
sibility of being the chief law enforcement
officer for Hopkins County.
Current Sheriff J.E. (Junior) Tittle
recently obtained a list of the former
sheriffs from the beginning when the
county seat was located at Tarrant, north
of Sulphur Springs. He has found that four
of the former sheriffs are still living and he
has invited them to the open house for the
new Hopkins County Jail on Saturday. **
. The former sheriffs include J.L (Jim)
Bryce, who began his first of two two-year
terms in IM; Delphia Leewright, elected
in 19M; Frank Jobe, who took over in 1976
following the death of Paul R. (Popeye).

briefly in 1971 before Tittle’s election.
