Jamie Riley pitched instead
and had an exceptional night.
Her team played good defense
behind her, and she did well, the
coach said.
"1 was proud of her and the
whole team," Anderson
jemarked, "They played the
way they were supposed to...as
a team. I think that's the secret
to success. These young women
play well. -They do play as a
team, and they were willing to
work hard to get to this level."
Team member Holly
Babineaux- said it didn't hurt
that their coach is so laid back.
"Coach Anderson is pretty
relaxed," the 18-year-old senior
said. The daughter of Denise

City, said that it "helps a lot"

allows the team to play its way,
because he knows that at this
point, they know exactly what
needs to be done, she said.
"We've scored close to 100
points' just in district,"
Babineaux explained, "And we
only allowed four runs in dis-
trict. We've had several shutout
games this year."

Anderson said they are just
going to take one game at a
time, though they are hopeful
that the team will do well. It’s
different at this level, Anderson
said. The team will have to real-
ly stay focused. Babineaux
agreed, but made a guarded pre-
diction.

Babineaux is already talking

Championship 8 to 7 Friday
night, giving them a 10-0
record for the season and a
clear margin of wins.
"The closest one to us Friday
was Newton, who came in sec-

Coach K.C. Anderson said.
"And we had to do it without

pitcher, was sidelined from a

The Bridge City City Council
considered a ban on "pit bull"
terriers at its April 17 meeting.
A request hy Sandra Rose,
Bridge City Intermediate
School assistant principal, was
the main topic of discussion.
She asked that the city place a
ban on the dogs within city lim-
its because of the potential dan-
ger to children and othqr pets.
Her request came after a pair of
pit bulls allegedly killed her 10-
year-old golden retriever.
Ms. Rose also cited recent
similar cases within her neigh-
borhood. including pit bulls
chasing children, jumping
fences and attacking small
dogs. She asked the council
"not to let a child be hurt or
killed before you take this into
consideration."
According to Bridge City
Animal Control Officer Stacy
Snell, the dogs that reportedly
attacked Ms. Rose's pet were
subsequently adopted outside
of the city limits, a voluntary
action on the part of the owners.
On the advice of City
Attorney H D. Pate, the council
took no action on the matter.
Pate cited Chapter 822.047 of
the Health and Safety Code that
states. "A county or municipali-
ty may place additional require-
• ments or restrictions on danger-
ous dogs if ... (the restrictions]
are not specific to one breed or
