SUNDAY, APRIL 13... A SPECIAL DAY AT BETH YESHURUN
Sunday, April 13, will be a special day for Jews throughout
the world. On the Hebrew calendar it will be the 27th day of
Nisan which has been designated Yom Hasho’ah, “The Day
of Remembrance,” the day to remember the 6,000,000 Jews
who were killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust.
Thousands upon thousands of Jews flock to synagogues on
Purim to commemorate the day that Haman wanted to kill
the Jewish people; almost all Jews attend a Seder on Pesach
to remember how Pharoah wanted to destroy the Jewish
masses; Tisha b’Av is observed by many Jews as a day of
mourning because our Temple, made of brick and water, was
destroyed on that day ... and therefore the 27th of Nisan was
proclaimed Yom Hasho’ah, a day of remembrance, so that the
greatest catastrophe that has befallen the Jewish people
should not be forgotten. If evil intentions against Jews and the
destruction of their holy Temple merited a day of memorial,
surely the death of 6,000,000 men, women and children surely
merited a day of memorial.
Therefore, on Sunday, April 13, at the weekly TNT-SOS-
VIP service (9:30 a.m.) we will gather together in the Sanctu-
ary to remember the Jews whose lives were snuffed out by
the Nazis simply because they were Jews.
Six people will light 6 candles — each candle memorializ-
ing 1,000,000 innocent Jews who were slaughtered during
the Nazi Holocaust.
A special booklet of Holocaust poetry will be given to all
who attend so that they will be able to participate in the
memorial service.
Slides of the Holocaust will be shown on a large screen.
The cantor and the Congregation will chant “Ani Ma-a-
min,” the song that the Jews sang as they marched to their
death in the gas chambers of Europe.
We truly hope that you will not forget those who died be-
cause of the scourge of antisemitism. Thank God we were
living in the United States and we were spared the calamity.
Come and bring your entire family and join us in the ser-
vice and at the breakfast afterwards. (Dress is very informal
just attend).
Two special groups, besides the regular TNT-SOS-VIP
congregation, will be present at this service and breakfast:
all the families who joined the synagogue since January 1979,
and the 55 members of Astro VIII (and their families) who
will be leaving for Israel immediately after the service.
Do not forget those whose lives were snuffed out simply
because of Jew hatred. Join us at the synagogue on Sunday,
April 13 at 9:30 a.m.
