This week’s London Update
is hinging on a “down beat.” We
tried very hard to produce a
fundraiser of a somewhat large
magnitude. But no matter how
hard we tried, we could not pull
it off. And we tried hard... very
hard. George and Lydia Val-
adez deserve a “round of
applause” for just that — hard
work. They both put many hours
of their personal time coordi-
nating, arranging, and produc-
• ing the Bellamy Brothers Con-
cert, which by the way was
exciting and entertaining. We
should thank them for pjrovid-
ing Port Lavaca with entertain-
ment of this caliber. The Bel-

CELEBRATING
80 ~
Faithful support greatly appreciated
unselfishly on this project, take
a bow... you gave Port Lavaca a
glittering glimpse of the
“stars.”
We can only reflect and spe-
culate on this venture. Perhaps
we were over confident in
assuming we could fill the
majority of seats in our auditor-
ium for two performances. Per-
haps we were so filled with
such optimism to succeed, we
failed to look at the real hard
facts. Perhaps we took leaps
forward instead of steps, know-
ing our time is rapidly slipping
by. Nevertheless, for whatever
reason or reasons the concert
did not financially succeed, we
know our intentions, our
desires, and yes. our hearts
were in the right place.
For those who have faithfully
followed our progress, you
know we have put effort after
effort forth, project after pro-
ject forth; and we will still con-
tinue to do just that. This ven-
ture can be deemed a failure in
dollars only, not in our spirit,
not in our hope, not in our
determination. We may have
lost the battle, but not the war.
So our heartfelt thanks to Mr.
Sterling Griffith, our Master of
Ceremony’ who did an excellent
job for us, and also a “Big”
thank you to the Port Lavaca
Police Reserves and the Cal
houn County Sheriffs Reserves
who provided the security for
our event. All these men
donated their services without
charge; and we certainly do
appreciate it A job well done
by all.
To those who purchased tick-
ets and so enthusiastically
received the Bellamys...we
applaud you. To our suppor-
ters, our believers, our cam-
paigners, and our friends...we
salute you.
