BETH YESHURUN
Honoring Beth Yeshurun's
Adopted Refusnik Pavel Zaslavsky
Don Weem, who was very involved in Houston’s recent
Olympic Festival, is helping to co-ordinate Beth Yeshurun’s
“Paddle for Pavel” Sunday, September 14, at 1:00 p.m. Pavel
Zaslavsky, a refusnik and table-tennis champion, has been
adopted along with his family by our congregation. Pavel will
be represented by a nationally ranked champion, according to
Weems. In addition to his part in the Olympic Festival,
Weems is very active with the Houston Table Tennis
Association.
Buddy Melamed, a member of Beth Yeshurun and a table
tennis referee at the Olympic Festival, will also participate in
the tournament.
Divisions of the tournament include: Adult (age 18 and over,
Teens (age 13-17) and Pre-Teen (age 7-12). Entry fees are:
Adult $3.00, Teens $2.00 and Pre-Teens $1.00
You can buy lunch for your family, watch an exhibition of
tennis by champions and join in the tournament.

Sharon Weingarten and Michael Segal
BOTH TOBY AND I FEEL
VERY FORTUNATE
About two months ago, I wrote an article for the Message
indicating how proud Toby and I were of our son Michael who
had graduated from the University of Texas. Now, we would
like our congregants and friends to once again share with us
another simchah.
Saturday evening, August 30th, Michael became engaged
to Sharon Weingarten, daughter of Emily Weingarten and
the late Harris Weingarten, and they hope to be married this
coming May.
Both Toby and I feel fortunate that Michael will share his
life with a girl who is beautiful both outwardly and inwardly,
and who has a personality of gold and a disposition of silver.
Sharon and Mike have been sweethearts since High School,
eight years ago. Sharon constantly stood by Michael during
the past five and a half years, and her true love for him was
probably one of the most important factors in his recuperation.
Sharon was forever with him and beside him, faithfully
encouraging him and cheering him on. She even dropped out
of college for one semester in order to help him regain his
strength and his abilities.
Toby and I say as the psalmist said three thousand years ago
(Psalm 23:5) “[Our] cup runneth over.”
