Lt. Col. Yoseph Offer
A veteran of Israel’s War of Independence, Offer
was one of the first to receive pilot’s wings from the
newborn Air Force. After retirement, he went on to
become a pilot for El Al.
Born and raised in Romania, Offer was 15 years old
when he was sent to Auschwitz with his family. He
later was transferred to Buchenwald and never saw his
family again.
Now a part-time writer, he is active in Yad Vashem
aiming to study and preserve the memory of the
Holocaust.

army during the Korean War, completed his college education,
and became a Partner in a CPA firm.
Bob and his wife Sondra have three children. Dr. Marcey *
Shapiro who resides in Durham, N.C., Marc and Nancy Shapiro
from Austin, TX, and Richard Shapiro of Houston. Added to
this fine family are two grandchildren, three year old Bryan and
one and a-half year old Michelle who live in Austin, TX. Bob has
served on Congregation Beth Yeshurun’s Board for the past
three years, and is presently President of the Houston Shippers
Association. He is an avid sports fan, and is an active sportsman
at the JCC where he enjoys racquetball. He and Sondra enjoy
traveling and have been to Israel twice and Spain once with
Rabbi Segal, and recommend such a trip for all. We salute Bob
on this important birthday.
