High Holiday Choir Rehearsals
The High Holiday Choir will be having its first rehearsal on
Tuesday, August 4th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Great
Sanctuary. Congregation members who enjoy singing and can
sight-read music are encouraged to participate in these
exciting rehearsals. If you have sung in choruses before, we
welcome you to experience the High Holidays where you are
active participants and sing glorious compositions of prayers
that are spiritually uplifting.
Please contact Hilary Nitsun at 666-1881 ext. 108 if you
plan to attend the opening rehearsal on August 4, 1998.
Annual Houston Cantors’ Concert
Once again, Houston Cantors will join together in concert for
their Annual Houston Cantors’ Concert which takes place this
year on Wednesday, August 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Congregation
Beth Israel. Celebrating its 14th year, this annual concert is
presented by the Jewish Community Center and the Houston
Cantorial Association. Cantors Steven Berke, Elizabeth Berke,
Irving Dean, Robert Gerber, David Propis, and Vadim Tunitsky,
accompanied by Pianist Lew Zailer will blend their voices in a
program featuring some of the greatest compositions by 19th and
20th Century composers of High Holy Day liturgy. For the first
time, audience members will experience the broad spectrum of
High Holy Day music representative of all denominations of
Judaism.
Cantor Propis said “We are so excited to blend our voices on
a theme we hold so dear to our hearts — the liturgy of the High
Holidays. Rarely do we ever get to sing these melodies together,
just prior to our individual High Holiday experiences.”
Tickets are $13 adults / $10 seniors and students and are
available at the JCC Information Desk or area synagogues. For
information or to charge tickets by phone call 729-3200 ext.
3231.
