The connection between the Ferris
& Simpson canal and the Collegeport
canal has been completed and a large
amount of rice has been planted
south of town in a territory heretofore
without water.
The Collegeport fair will be contin-
ued for two days this year and a de-
partment has been opened for live-
stock. The fair, although a local
show, has been a splendid one in the
past. This year, with a much larger
number of entries of greater variety,
it win he a display worthy of the
town.

Palacios, Texas, April 22.—At the
First Presbyterian Church of the city
was convened last night the annual
meeting of the Brazos presbytery. A
very able discourse was delivered by
Dr. W. S. Jacobs of Houston, who is
the retiring moderator. Dr. Jacobs
took for his text Matthew v, 16. He
held the churches responsible for the
manner in which the sinner is rejected
instead of being welcomed.
After the sermon the presbytery
wras called to order, and Dr. W. R.
Hill of Houston was elected moderator
for the ensuing year. W. T. Ahren-
beck of Giddings was elected tem-
porary clerk; Rev. C. H. Story of
Bryan, reading clerk, and Dr. W. S,
Jacobs, reporter.
The program for Wednesday morn-
ing was carried out as follows: At 9
o’clock Rev. W. M. Lewis of Navasota
delivered an able address on “How
to Promote Bible Study Among
Church Members.” At 11 o’clock Dr.
F. E. Fincher of Houston preached on
“Perseverance of the Saints.” The
evening service was conducted by Dr,
R. M. Hall of Galveston.
