beat Ponder
On Saturday, February 6.
Sanger 1 traveled to Aubrey
to play Ponder. Sanger
Jumped into the lead in the
first half 6-4 with Buel,
Came, and Arnold each
scoring a basket.
The second half Sanger
played a tough defense giving
up only two points to
Sanger's six points made by
Shaw. The final score was
12-6 Sanger. Way to go girls!

Varsity girls
beat Warriors,
lose to Pottsboro
The varsity girls traveled to Bonham to take on the
Warriors on Tuesday, February 2. Sanger won the game
easily 42-35 to improve their record to 16-10 on the year 6-5
in district play and 3-1 in the second half.
The Indians Jumped ahead early 9-7 at the end of the
opening period. Sanger was led by Kelly Webster with four,
followed by Kathy Wade with three and Stephanie Sons
added two.
During the second quarter Wade with four points led
Sanger to a 20-16 halftime lead. She had help from Webster.
Julie Jannereth and Tricia Masten, who all scored two
points each.
Bonham was able to pull to within two points in the
third quarter, as they outscored the Lady Indians 9-7.
Sanger led 27-25 going into the final quarter.
Sanger outscored the Warriors 15-10 in the final period
to win 42-35. Webster and Sons led Sanger with four points
followed by Wade with three and Giese and Christina
McCarty each chipped in a two points.
Scoring for the Indians: Kelly Webster and Kathy Wade
led with 10 points each, Stephanie Sons 8, Hannah Giese 6.
Christina McCarty 4 and Tricia Masten and Julie Jannereth
each added 2 points.
Sanger then hosted Pottsboro who had beat the Lady
Indians earlier in the year by one point, on Friday,
February 5. Sanger lost the game 58-46 to drop their record
to 16-11 on the year. 6-6 in district play and 3-2 In the
second half.
Sanger Jumped out quick taking the early 14-9 lead at
the end of the first quarter. Kelly Webster got off to a quick
start for the Indains scoring six points, Kathy Wade and
Stephanie Sons each added three and Christina McCarty
knocked in two freethrows.
But during the second period Sanger lost their lead as
Pottsboro outscored them 13-7 to tie the game at 211
Sanger couldn't regain the lead as Pottsboro scored 15
points in the third quarter and held the Indians to 10. Sons
and Wade with three points each led Sanger and McCarty
and Webster each added a basket. But Pottsboro led 36-31
going into the final quarter.
Sanger was able to combine for 15 points in the fourth
quarter, but Pottsboro was able to rack up 23 to win the
game 58-46. Webster. McCarty and Wade all led Sanger with
four points each.
Scoring for the Indians: Kelly Webster led with 15, Kathy
Wade and Stephanie Sons had 10 each, Christina McCarty 7
and Tresa Muir and Hannah Giese each added 2 points.
Sanger will host the Farmersville Farmers for their last
game of the year. The players and coaches would appreciate
your support.
JV boys beat Farmersville
The JV boys traveled to Farmersville on Monday.
February 1 and beat the Fanners 43-41.
The Indians Jumped ahead 12-6 at the end of the first
quarter, but they were outscored 12-11 in the second
quarter. Sanger led at the half 23-18.
Again the Indians were outscored 14-13 in the third
quarter, as the Fanners edged off SanSers lead to f°ur
points. Sanger kept their poise in the last quarter holding
Farmersville to nine points and winning the game 43-41.
William Stevens led the Indians with 12 points, followed
by Brady Beard with 11, Jason Attaway. Chad Bllton and
Sean McQueen each had 6 and Cisneros added 2 points.
The JV will host Farmersville again this Friday night,
on Tuesday. February 16 they will travel to Gainesville and
will host the Leapords again for the last game of the year on
Friday, February 19.
JV girls beat Farmers 23-18
The JV girls hosted the Farmersville Farmers on
Monday. February 1 and beat them in a low scoring game
23-18.
Both teams got off to a slow start as Farmersville
outscored Sanger 2-1 at the end of the opening quarter.
Sanger started producing some offense in the second
quarter, as they scored eight points and held the Farmers to
six. Sanger led at halftime 9-8.
Both teams scored eight points in the third period and
Sanger remained ahead 17-16 going into the final quarter.
With some great coaching by their head coach Barry
Hawkins and some very good defense by the players, Sanger
held their opponent to only two points in the final period.
Sanger won the game 23-18.
Karla Frizzell led all Indians scoring 5 points, followed
by Tara Herzog and Melinda Massey each scoring 4. Evie
Hayes and Daniel Sprlegel each added 3 and Sommer
Boland chipped in 2 points.
The win improved their record to 13-4 on the year.
