deployment as part of battle group
While aboard the USS
Cowpens, Hutson, who
joined the Navy in Nov.
1990, has participated in a
wide range of exercises with
the Japanese Maritime Self-
Defense Force, Republic of
Korea's Navy and Royal
Singaporean Navy. Along
with the USS California and
USS Vincennes, the USS
Cowpens provides the battle
group with a greater
capability to defend itself
against modern aircraft,
ships and submarines.
Hutson is one of 364
sailors aboard the 567-foot-
long ship, which is capable
of carrying Tomahawk
cruise missiles.
While deployed. Hutson
has visited Japan, Okinawa.
South Korea. Hong Kong.
Singapore. Guam and Ma-
laysia.
Hutsons involvement in
the deployment is an exam-
ple of how the Navy and
Marine Corps team works
closely with other U.S. and
allied forces, providing
military commands with
direct and lasting support
ashore from the sea.
Naval forces serve as part
of international coalitions,
enhance diplomatic contacts
and provide assistance
wherever U.S. power and
resolve are needed.
