The Dish On Satellite TV For The Holidays
Looking for a great
holiday gift idea the whole family
can enjoy? Take a look at satellite
TV—the fastest growing consumer
electronics product since the VCR
and the compact disc.
Boasting a crystal-clear digital
picture and CD-quality sound,
satellite TV’ lias quickly become
the choice of more than 3.5 million
Americans who love the wide vari-
ety of programming choices satel-
lite offers. Consumers can cus-
tomize their viewing options, with
choices ranging from sports to
news to movies to any combination
of entertainment.
As with most new technology,
not all satellite dishes come cheap.
While some customers can
scrounge up between $500-$700 to
own a dish outright, a growing
number of people are opting to
hook up wit li I’rimestar. which is a
satellite TV service that doesn't
require the purchase of satellite
equipment. The equipment, pro-
gramming. maintenance and a
viewing guide are included in one
monthly fee.
Programming packages range
in cost from the suggested retail
price of $32.99 (for the PrimeValue
package of 64 channels; including
CNN, regional sports networks,
audio and pay-per-view channels
and The Disney Channel) to the
suggested retail price of $54.99 (for
the PrimeEamily package of up to
95 channels). About 50 new chan-
nels will he added to the service
when Primestar transitions to a
new satellite in early 1997.
The service also offers a variety
of attractive features at no addi-
tional cost including a parental
lock-out feature. To activate the
feature, parents simply enter a
personal code (known only to
them) into the remote control.
They can either block out program-
ming by channel or movie rating.
Primestar is available in
RadioShack stores nationwide
and by calling 1-800-PkimESTAR.
