•DENOTES DISTRICT GAME
HEAD COACH-RANDY ALEXANDER; ASSISTANTS-SCOTT SMILEY-JV;
BRETT RUSCHE-9TH
The I>ady Indians varsity basketball team hosted the no. 6
ranked team in class 3A Friday night at SMS gym. T he Aledo
Lady Cats had narrowly lost to Bowie (ranked 5th in the state)
before they met the Indians. Sanger handed them their second
loss of the year 59-57. Sanger's full-court press and poise
down the stretch proved to be too much for Aledo.
“We'll take those." said head coach Deiyll Friday. “That's
the best team effort we've had all year. All eleven players con-
tributed."
Junior guard Kacye Frizzell led Sanger with 26 points. Nancy
Kamp also continued to hit big shots down the stretch. Kamp
scored ten points for the night.
Aledo's 6'4" Sally Burrows was able to score 25 points and
her sister Katie was the next high scorer with 13 But Sanger
forced several turnovers, which turned into easy layups lor the
Indians. “We kept pressure on them the entire game and wore
them down towards'the end." said Friday.
Sanger improves their record to 13-5. 0-0 and proved they
are a definite playoff contender in District 9-3A. "Well take this
week off for the holidays.” said Friday "And then well get Io play
a couple of more games before district starts."
Also scoring for the Indians were Sarah Rosenberg.with seven
points followed by Katie Webster with live. Emmy Langford and
Jackie Cannon scored four points each and sophomore Shell!
Pennington added three.
Ray Roberts level is right
on normal. You'll excuse me.
I hope, for not having the
so i face t emperat u re.
T uesday morning, when I put
tins together, the air temps
was 32 degrees and falling.
T here was light snow driven
by 25 to 30 mph north wind
and the chill factor was
about IO degrees. I decided
not to go out to the lake and
stick a thermometer in it!
The "Siberian Express"
lias put night temperatures
in the teens and daytime
highs in the low to upper
twenties through Friday
night, but some warming
started Saturday. Before this
st nit hit the surface
temperature was 53 degrees.
My experience and notes
from years past indicate we
can expect the surface
temperature to be about 45
degrees by Saturday due to
(lie duration and intensity of
tile cold.
Just before the cold front
all fishing was slow except
lor sand bass and they were
finicky. You could hit a spot
and catch up to your limit
but in many locations your
depth finder would show lots
of shad and “hooks" (fish)
but nary a strike was to be
had. Some days the sandies
would hit early and late and
not in between and hire
manipulation would be
critical for a bite. But real
cold weather tends to make
sandies group up tighter and
hit better. Late last
December we caught lots of
good, heavy sandies on
jigging spoons at 35 feet
when ■ the surface
temperature was 46 degrees.
So Just try to pick calm days
and give it a shot.
Norma and I extend to
you our most sincere and
heartfelt wish that you and
your family have a warm,
happy Christmas season.
And I hope all of us outdoor
people who get to see and
experience first hand the
stupendous gifts our Creator
has given ns will pause in
our most quiet and maybe
secret places out yonder to
give thanks. I've noticed for a
long time that it is not
possible lor your mind to be
busy with all the
superfluities of life when
there is this big ole’ bass
hanging out there on the end
oi your line. Or a big sandie
bending your rod under the
bo.it. Ditto a speckled
erappie or catfish. This
fishing stuff is good for what
ails you. Some folks have
never seen an osprey catch a
fish or a bald eagle in the
high blue. You and 1 have.
May the peace of the
outdoors be with you.
