School won first place in the dis-
trict Latin Tournament for-the third
L|me when she ranked first in the
third year division of the essay
ebntesl at Temple Saturday Miss
Locker was one of five Cleburne
students who won places in the
tournament. She was first in the
contest for the two preceding years
and won second place in the State
contest. . _
' Jimmie Lee won the first year
Latin tests with a grade of 98 8 per
cent and was highest in the first
year essay contest.
Francis Nee was first in the sec-
ond year class with 84.8 per cent.
Third place in the third year divis-
sion was won by Louise Harris with
a grade of 74.4.' and Grade Mae
Jones was third in the January be-
ginners class.
A banquet on the Doering roof
brought the ail-day meet to a close.
It honored the bl-millenium of
Horace. Small lyres in the blue and
silver colors of Temple High School
were used as place cards. Dr. H. J.
Leon, professor of Latin at the Uni-
versity of* Texas was the prinotpal
•speaker. L. C. Procter, superinten-
dent of Temple schools, was toast-
master.
Winning papers will be submitted
in the State-wide contest including
•the nine districts, and results will
be announced in about two weeks.
, Winners in the Latin contest re-
ceived pins in the form of gold
lamps of knowledge. Essay winners
received silver scroll pins
